2. whats the price range for an extractor?
3. can they be bought locally. as well as online?
4. do you personally find it necessary to use an extractor?

Here is a picture of the extractor that I use at work.
Its the Mytee HP100. I think Dwayne carries these on PAC. (you'll have to look into it)
Its an excellent machine but it will be too big and pricey if you are just doing a few side jobs.
The extractor heats a cleaning solution and sprays it down (this machine puts down 100PSI i believe) then sucks the solution up all in one pass. This machine has 2heaters that heat the solution up to 210 degrees. I dont remember off hand what the lift is but this baby has some pull.
Work payed for his one so I just pointed to it.
I was around $1600.
The local AM guy here carries small extractor (spotter i think they call it) for about $450. The spotter heats to 190 or 200 degrees I know its not as hot as the HP100. The lift or suction isnt as good either. The big difference (other then the price) is the solution and recover tank. The HP100 has 2 11gallon tanks and I think the spotter has 2 1 1/2gallon tanks. The dealership I work for is a small dealership and the HP100 is almost too big even for our use.
I'm sure you can get them online but I cant point you in any good direction.
Once you use an extractor you will never go back to the way you are cleaning carpets now.
Hope this helps some what.

That is the same extractor I have...and I love it.
I have owned it for about 3 years now...I would highly recommend it.

You can rent an extractor from most rental places, usually not a Mytee but a home version, but I have had bad dealings in the past with them not working properly or mainly soaking and not sucking, er, sounds personal:lmfao .

The Mytee pictured is one we have had at the shop for around 2 years, we live by it, it is that good. Heavy stains still need to be pre-soaked with a general purpose and scrubbed, but the Mytte pulls it all out if used properly. I have seen prices any where from 800-2000 on the net, just gotta shop around. I love it for seats, with the heat it breaks up stains fairly well so there is no need to heavy soak most cases, they dry within an hour or so. Good luck!

I paid $800 for my HP 100 and it came with a free Mytee crevice tool. It was used but only for a year and still has the original warranty.

Your best bet is to buy an extrator from Durrmaid the run for for about $550 and have the same power as the bigger more expensive extractors. Unless your doing a lot of jobs.

The place I bought it from was called Sparkle Auto. Look them up. I bet they will have a unit similar to that if you call and ask them to look out for you. Thats what I did and it paid off because the Mytee was the extractor I have been waiting to buy for a few years now. :)

Ours also came from with the crevice tool, we are in such a hurry we never take time to swap ends, just do the hard spots the old fashioned way, lil GP, a brush and vac, or an air hose actually for the tight tight nooks. Damn dealerships hate when you get overly thorough. I am sure something out there comes close to the cleaning power, they also make many sizes of Mytee's, I know they are very reliable for the use they get. Well worth it, just downsize, the 100 is pretty close to commercial size but there portables work damn near as well for alot less.

550 for an extractor... whew, that would probably set me back about 2-3 months, depending on how much i charge. i was thinkin something more like in the range of 100-300 bucks. i detail sorta like a part time job and a hobby, when im bored on the weekends. i have school on weekdays. whats this i hear about a little green machine?

cant beat the mytee ... ive finally paid off my machine ..$1300.00 worth of detailing but now i own this awesome peice of detailing machinery .., id do it again in a second!!!!! you get what you pay for
