EXO v2 Gtech

I have taken some time off the boards mostly because I have been shoveling-LOL.

Had some warm weather this past weekend 60's, got the cars washed up and they are all in pretty good condition and I am happy with the way the GTECH and Opticoat 2.0 have been wearing.

My personal preference is for the EXO v2 on my car because it is super slick, Beads like crazy and is very self cleaning. It is not quite a mar resistant as the opti-coat 2.0 but its close.

The opticoat on my wifes car and my sons car is perfect as neither of them give a hoot about how it feels or beads and I know that I can wash it 1-2-3 without too much worry and they look great.

So the question is, has anyone used GTECH EXO v2 that thinks another coating product is better in the following categories listed in order of importance to me:

1. Looks (super deep, wet and glossy with sharp mirror reflection)
2. Durability (length of time the coating work well)
2.5 Mar resistance
3. Slickness
4. Self cleaning

If so please tell me what it is and how long you get from an application.

Thanks

Mine is still going strong, but it's only been like 6 months on the C1/EXOv2 combo. It may not have the marring resistance of Opti-Coat, but Opti-Coat doesn't look like EXO - trust me, I stripped the OC off and put it on my 911.

Glad you like it! Let's see some pics, you know, when the snow melts :)

Thanks for the quick update. Here is my thoughts and my opinion.

1) Looks - Exo is awesome, however Pinnacle Black Label is right there. It is a different look though, more rich and carnauba in appearance, but definitely boutique.
2) Durability - Cquartz will last about 6 months longer, Black Label will last about 1 year longer.
2.5) If find most of the resin-based coatings to be similar here.
3) Slickness - EXO is the slickest, Black Label is a close close second. With the advent of Black Label's Booster Spray, this has become a non issue with me.
4) Self Cleannig - CquartzUK is right there.

Your accounts of how amazing Exo v2 are having me wanting to try it. (This coming from a CarPro CQ, CQUK, Hydro2, ReLoad guy...)

Just gonna throw this out there because I've been using Cquartz UK a lot recently. It's amazing! If you IR light cure it, its amazing how hard it is to scratch and the gloss is insane. Even if you don't IR light I say its far better at resisting scratches than Opti Coat Pro even... Even on my jeep where I compounded it, middle stepped it, finish polished, and jeweled(it look awesome!) UK made it look way better!

Todd,

Thanks for the opinion, I appreciate the comparisons. Can you follow up on a few more questions I have:

Is the black label booster like reload but for the BL product line?

When you say, black label will last a year. There is a difference to me about presence of a coating found on a surface in a lab test and super slick surface feel (with my hand) and beads that roll off the paint like they are being chased by a great white shark.

Self cleaning, when you say Cquartz is right there, I assume you mean with the EXO not the BL correct?

Thanks again for the info, much appreciated. I have a QX4 that is my rough use utility vehicle and I need to give it some love. It went through the winter without being re-protected. The last thing it got was Ultima Paint Guard plus in August of 2012! Suffice it to say, it needs some polishing and protection and I amplanning my product now, hoping for an early spring. Needless to say, it is 8 degrees here in NY this early AM and after a 60 degree weekends last weekend, I am confused but wanting to make a decision on what to use and get it ordered so its here when the weather breaks.

My short list is :

CQuartz, EXO v2 and Blacklabel. The only reason I left Opti-Coat 2.0 off the list is because I have (Happily and satisfactorily) it on 2 cars and I want to either get exposure to another product or stick with my current best (according to my criteria) performer, EXO.

Thanks for the reply, if I did this for a living, the IR curing would not be an issue but for a guys doing his own rides, 1x per year, its a bit of an investment and a PITA for me. I have been wanting to try the cquartz and even purchased some but jumped to the EXO when their marketing really spoke to me. The demo/sales video for EXO v1 on the Enzo just make me pull out my credit card. When the car wearing EXO V1 and the contents of my carage was totaled in a flood, I resupplied with EXO v2. Love the application of the aerosol as it was faster, but perhaps not as economical as the v2 dropper. I much prefer the MF application of v1 which allows for faster coverage of large panels.

Anyway, thanks and Cquartz is a serious contender on my list.

Troy, no matter what coating your coming from I find it very hard to imagine that it can be any/much better than EXO. I am past super impressed with the Look, Feel, Beading and durability, so far after 6.5 months sitting outside in 85+ degree sun/heat, 8 degree, 65 total inches of snow this winter and salted NY roads over 18,000 miles the car beads like the day I applied it. marring is really imperceptible last I checked (prior to the winter). In all honesty, If I get 6-8 months out of a coating I feel like I got my moneys worth. Anything else is a bonus. Just hated applying the P21S 100% every 3-4 weeks to keep dem dar beads fresh (OCD is a terrible thing.), BFWD was better, as was Colonite insulator wax also OK but nothing like OPti-Coat 2.0 and then EXO my current king of the hill.

The prep required prior to any LSP is always worse than the application of the LSP, and although I love the results, the decon, and polishing process is not so much fun for me. I have found so much more free time, in my off time, now that my cars are coated. Washes are fast and easy but recoating is still a full day event (6-8 hrs) for me but that it so rare now.

Last weekend was warm, sprinkles Sunday evening. Woke up to frozen EXO beads Monday for work. ON my way to work the hood heated up enough that at parkway speeds the frozen beads were popping off the hood into the windshield, at first I though they were rocks being kicked up until I realized it was frozen beads. I cannot recall that ever happening with anything else.

I agree with everything you said. I remember you initial application hick up almost scared me away. I went straight EXO just to be safe. Glad I did.

The opti-Coat toughness is a plus for my wife's DD (Done by me after watching a professional install it on my sons car) and my Son's car (application done by Dave S of Street Dreams) because they don't take care of them like I do, nor do they see what I see. The rest of my family does not care to spend time cleaning and washing. But I just look at it as protecting my investment (in their vehicles) and I still like a good looking car sitting on my driveway. Plus when I wash them , it is an easy quick wash. THe OC is 1.5 years old and lasting like a boss although some of the beading is not a tight but is cleans easily and protects from maring. If it does not bead like a MOFO I can deal with that (on their car NOT mine-LOL).

Todd,

Yes, although Booster will work on any resin or glass-based coating.

When you say, black label will last a year. There is a difference to me about presence of a coating found on a surface in a lab test and super slick surface feel (with my hand) and beads that roll off the paint like they are being chased by a great white shark.

Black Label will last up to 3 years, vs. 2 for most resin-based coating. How much drop of in performance there is depends on so many factors such as maintanace, exposure, paint type, application and so on.

Black Label should retain a high percentage of its initial performance for the majority of its applied shelf life.

Self cleaning, when you say Cquartz is right there, I assume you mean with the EXO not the BL correct?

Correct

I have OC Pro on my truck but it sits outside 24/7. For me Exo2 may be the perfect topper product in this case. especially since Exo was made for the purpose of topping C1 or other coatings.

Have you tried Sonax PNS (Polymer net shield)? I have a can that I plan on trying out as well.

I would not top anything with EXO. (I know they make some base coatings for it but I see no need and to me only bad things can happen- Streaks, blotchy-ness-search around and you will see) All my experience has been on just polished , ultra squeaky clean paint. And my experiences with both EXO v1 and V2 have been beyond expectations, which is unusual for me. If I pay all that $ for a few ounces of product I expect to be WOW-ed. Believe me the price per gallon on this stuff is ridiculous if you calculate it. it make HP replacement ink look cheap !!!!!!!!!!

I have tried PNS. I used it on my brothers RR Sport and it was great. Expect slightly better performance than say BFWD sealant and very easy application. Just take if off before it dries completely. My quick review is, PNS is great if you don't want to apply a coating for some reason. In this case, I did not have the time to polish all that black paint and we wanted to knock it out in a few hours. I would have Permanon Platinum'd it but I wanted to try the Polymer Net Shield. Beads like a coating, lasts like a top tier sealant and looks like a nice clear , wet, optically crisp reflection that I prefer. I did not do a full review simply because my prep was not text book as my brother cares very little and would not have applied anything if I did not suggest it and I don't get to maintain it or see it over time regularly so the long term review would be flawed so why bother. Taking care of the paint to him is he tunnel washing the car every Friday on the way home from work.

Thanks Todd I try.

I have never see the PBL in person on paint but Todd did a yellow vette if you search the pro forum you can see it for yourself. The EXO is presents a very optically accurate reflection. It is like a mirror (only with orange peel) and the nubas you mention are "hazy" imho.

I cannot comment on the PBL but Todd suggested it is a rich/warmer (more wax like ) shine that many here, favor over the crisp reflection. That is why there are so many coating in the "good" category. After that we are splitting hairs. Each person can see the same things, like shine, differently.

Between PBL and EXO v2...which one is nearest to the look of Blackfire sealant topped with either MS or BI?
