EX vs. EX-P

I am going to order Natty's Blue and was wondering which of these two sealants would be best under it on my dark metallic blue GTO. I'm too lazy to search, and am in a hurry.

What are the pros and cons of each? If I'm going to be topping with a carnauba, I assume I would want the EX. If I'm going to leave it be, or layer numerous layers of the sealant, the EX-P?

I don't remember who it was but somebody pointed out that Chemicalguys stuff is very close to Poorboys. I just bought a gallon of their new EXx3 stuff and it is better than EX-P in my opinion. I think the added carnuba gives the surface a very wet look. I'm not sure if PB upraded their ex yet, I'm comparing it to when they first came up with ex-p, love their stuff but if you can save money why not? I'd consider a trade if you have something I want to try? I just used it for the first time yesterday so I'm excited to post about it, sorry I don't know how to post pics yet or I would show you, but it is the sweetest look my car has had.

Metallic = ex-p. Non = ex w/carnauba. Basic explaination is that ex w/carnauba can mute flakes.

Interesting. Wonder how much of a difference this makes when topping EX-P with Natty's Blue?

I agree with that... My wifes Liberty is dark with some flake. Had been using EX-P and the flakes popped pretty well. The finish really brightened up with this flaking with barely any depth. This weekend started layering EX, and the finish is deeper and glossier with just a little flake popping. Overall color is much darker than with EX-P. Gonna top it all off with some Nattys-Blue.

I am almost positive Richt will chime in in this thread. He's tried all the clearkote/poorboys combos on his metallic black car, so I'd trust whatever he says. In my experience ex w/carnauba does leave the paint looking a little darker/richer, but I've seen it mute flakes, the depth isn't worth the flake mutage (nice new word, huh?) imo. I personally think with an extra product like Clearkotes RMG you could get the same depth out of ex-p without the muting of flakes.

On non-metallic cars ex w/carnauba is tough to beat, though.

I placed an order for EX-P and Natty's Blue. I will be trying different Clearkote/Poorboys's combinations to see which makes my Midnight Blue Metallic look the best.

EX-p on its own gives a clearer look to the paint, very wet loooking though. As said the EX with Carnuba seems to darken the paint and give a softer type glow. In doing this though on my metallic black car it makes the car just look black rather than metallic black as it seems to mute the flake.

By using EX-p topped with a clear looking but very wet wax like Nattys Blue you will get the clear wet flake pop look of the EX-p, with the warmer look of a carnuba over the top without the slight muting of the EX.

Once Ex-p is topped with various carnubas it looks alike to the EX but with more flake pop here.

At the moment I simply use EX on dark colours and EX-P on light colours, however, when I need to reorder, I'll stick stick with just EX-P.

Good info. I had the same question as I now have both EX and EX-P. All of my cars are metallic so I look forward to trying the EX-P this week. I was incredible happy with the look of the EX so I can't wait to see what the EX-P does.

Which do you guys think would look better on red, EX topped with Natty's Blue or EX-P topped with Natty's Blue? I have a Tornado Red Volkswagen.

Thanks for any feedback.

If Tornado Red is non-metallic I'd go with the EX topped with Natty's Blue. I've seen the results Scott has achieved with just EX on red cars, so topped with Natty's I imagine it'll be soaking wet!

I don't really understand the point of EX if you plan on topping with a carnauba anyways. With the EX-P, you can leave it untopped, and have the pure sealant look (crisp, reflective) or you can top it with your choice of carnauba for even more customization. With the EX, it seems your options are a little more limited. I haven't used EX, however, and this is just me thinking outloud.

EX is a syntethic carnuba blend . Mothers Top Coat is a syntethic carnuba blend . Do you guys think that they are similar?

As far as the kind of look (warm glow) yes they are similar. Other than that, not too similar (durability and application)

My very personal assessment is that reflections top coat is what EX wanted to be.... (see the emphasis in personal....)
