EX-P, WG question

EX-P and WG arrived today. Need to detail two cars this weekend but cannot find answers searching!

Does anyone know if EX-P and WG are used over everything like one uses VM? i.e. Metal trim, windows, plastic and rubber? Would really appreciate advice.

I haven't used WG's cleaner or EX-P the way I would use VM, so I don't know how they would work. EX-P is a pure sealant so I wouldn't expect it to clean plastic or rubberized trim well.

Thanks, Scott, but I don't want to use EX-P or WG sealants to clean anything. I'm not wording this right.

I'm wondering if I should put these SEALANTS over my trim. I read people put AIO/SG over everything. My reference to VM refers to that product's ability to cover many different surface materials.

Hope I am making my question clear.

I am hesitant to recommend putting either WG or EX-P purposefully on trim. I know Poorboy's says it would not stain trim but I don't know that is an invitation to apply directly to the trim. PM Poorboy or call Steve directly and he can tell you an "official" answer for his products.

I guess it would depend on your trim materials. Porous materials should receive only exterior trim treatments and protectants. Smooth trim (like the C-pillars of an Explorer or the B-pillars of most cars) could receive anything used on the paint.

Use either of these on glass--I LOVE using WG sealant on glass (or AIO, or VM...:))

Oh. Thanks, Thinksnow. Then am I also mistaken in my belief that people are putting AIO/SG over trim?

No, no, I wasn't being critical. Sorry if you took it that way. I have some porous trim around my windshield and rear window on the Honda that are a hard plastic, but a "pitted" plastic (for lack of a better word). Similarly, the Jeep has a rough plastic trim around the bumpers that I would not use AIO or other sealants on, but I would use VM. *This* is the kind of trim I would worry about.

However, I use AIO and SG on the side trim on the B-pillars of the Honda. This is a smooth metalized trim.

AIO can be used on most anything, like VM. However, SG is not recommended in the same fashion. I believe that it is the cleaning property of both (VM and AIO) that make trim stand out rather than the sealant or protective properties. Also, I have not been overly pleased with the use of AIO on rubber trim even though they suggest it is possible. VM, on the other hand:xyxthumbs

Hope this makes more sense.

(Didn't take it that way at all, Thinksnow.)

I understand what your saying. I have used VM on everything, as you first suggested to me, and I really like the product. I'll be using VM/2xEX-P/#16 on a white Accord (Scottwax VM/EX suggestion weeks ago) and WG on a black Toyota 4X4 this weekend after lots of prep. I'll test a small area of #16 on the WG to see what happens if I get that far.

By the way, the new Accords are really detailing friendly, IMO, as all of the external door seal rubber is on the door, not the body, there is minimal rubber (top edge only on front windshield, minor hidden lower at the rear), minor black trim on roof that "stands away" from the paint, no chrome grill, no external rubber around headlight glass, no funky body sculptures, etc.....I love it. Hey? Maybe a Hot Tub thread: Most detail friendly cars.

The old Toyota? I use a lot of blue tape. :( I can't wait to get going.

Wish everyone in Autopia happy trails and good weather this weekend.:usa
