Do i need to clay and everything before e-xp i just want to give the parents car some quick protection for winter, dont know if i will have time for a full detail. It does have rough spots that need to be clayed like the hood the rest is probably ok? will the machine pick that stuff up and damage the paint?

As long as you do a good washing to pick up all of the junk ontop of the paint I think you'll be ok... in the sense of hurting the paint. A quick spot clay on the areas that need it would yeild better results IMO. EX-P is very clear so the defects that are visible now will still be there after the sealant.
