I am yet to try EXP but have a few questions.

How many layers look best?

How long do I need to wait between layers, Any cure time?

How ong do I need to wait before topping witha Carnauba?
 
1) So far I have only done two coats, and the second definitely looked better than the first.



2) 24 hour cure time



3) same as "2", 24 hours

I typically wait a week between coats, but that's because of my day job...there are a number of schools of thought on this and a ton of climate related variables...24 hours is a good rule to start with. You can always adjust it from there.



Jason, it seems like I keep agreeing with you...so I just quote you, LOL. I hope you don't mind.
 
PB says 24 hours. I waited a day or two, and rewashed and applied the second coat. And like the above response, it looked alot better with the second coat. It suprised me, I was mainly doing the second coat for longevity, but the look between 1 coat and 2 was unbelievable.
 
Someone recommended using the PC for the first application and then by hand for the second as to minimize the amount of the first coat from being removed. Does anyone know if this is necessary or can it be applied by PC for the second and possibly the third layers as well. I just like the way it looks when applied by pc vs. by hand so much more that I'd hate to ruin by applying it by hand!
 
Steve has recommeded doing the rest by hand so that's what I did...it is easier to get a thin coat by PC, but I believe the PC may remove more of the first layer than a hand application.



I can't argue with the results, but I did struggle with the PVA applicator. It was dried out so it was like a brick and I had to use a bit too much water to revive it.
 
Did mine by PC both times. Come to think of it, I do everything by pc since I got it. lol



Seriously I think it spreads the product (especially EX-P, since its so thick) a lot more evenly, thinner, and LESS WORK, saves product, and did I mention LESS WORK
 
I'm with Big Casino, I just like applying it with the PC so much more. I don't know what it is, but I just botch it up by hand. I always apply WAY too much product and I'm never happy with the immediate results.



Maybe the trick to using the PC to apply multiple coats is slow speed and extremely light pressure as to try not to disturb the previous layers too much.
 
I agree, the first time I used EX-P was by hand, and I found it difficult to lay down a thin coat.



The next day I put the second coat on with the PC, a finish pad, and low speed....... it went on so much easier (IMHO), so I've never looked back and it's always went on with my PC ever since.



Two coats of EX-P on top of VM looks so reflective and wet it's hard to beat as a combo, and then topping it with Souverän is icing on the cake!
 
Me too...I'm planning to put a coat of Pinnacle Signature on the shiniest silver car in Atlanta.

The amount of first layer you may lose by doing the second by PC is a whole debate in itself. The logic makes sense... the PC goes in its orbital motion and has to create more heat/friction than my hand only because I can't move that fast. Even so, I'd rather do everything by PC myself.



That said, I always layer sealers or LSP's by hand. I know there are areas that I can't reach effectively with the PC. Using the PC first gives me all the benefits of the PC for 98% of the car, and layering the rest by hand insures that I get 100% coverage with the following layers.



Here's a trick with the PVA's... clean, rinse, and wring them when you done, then store them still wet in a sealed baggie. They'll be good-to-go the next time you need them.

Thanks...that's exactly what I did...I read it somewhere...otherwise it really gets as hard as a brick.

Crazy, isn't it... totally soft to totally hard in no time flat, and they really do get hard as a brick! Sure do work great when they're soft.

I applied my icing Saturday, and it starting raining Sunday :angry. Never fails... break out the Soveran and the rains come from out of nowhere!
 
Of course, that's good old Murphy messing with ya!!



I'm planning on detailing this sunday because Friday my brother and I are going to Ohio to buy a 98 Cobra and are taking a nice leisurely drive back down to Louisiana, so by the time we get back it will need a serious detail, I'm sure. At the same time, of course, I hope to be able to throw a little Souveran on top of that EXx2.
