Evo (Incomplete Detail)

Mad iX

No detail for you!!!
Got to detail an Evo V today. Unfortunately, duty called and I had to stop when I was just getting into it. I'll probably be resuming this sometime next week. Nice car but unfortunately a lot of signs of neglect.

Doesn't look too bad here. In fact it looks pretty good. That's what I thought when I first saw it.

However, on closer inspection ...

Smudge is from a test of ScratchX, which didn't do much.

Started with a wash (2-bucket method) with EO.

Almost non-existant beading. 8O

After rinse, left the car wet and clayed with Meg's QD and Claymagic blue.

Horizontal surfaces were rough but nothing the clay couldn't handle.

Also visible is the trim which was moderately faded. PB TR did well but I had to buff it off almost right away due to lack of time.

Paint defect under the CC.

Masked off the vents.

I'd only just started attacking the hood with SSR 2.5 when I got a phone call from work. Finished off the hood quickly, noticeably diminished the swirls but still plenty left. Sorry but haven't got pics of that, but the CC seemed quite thin due to lack of depth even on black. Hopefully a 2nd round of SSR 2.5 and finishing up with SSR 1 will yield some more satisfactory results. If not, then I'll have to break out DACP or even IP.

Also, it's got an aluminium wing, which has a couple of stains. It's not polished aluminium, more of a matt finish. I tried clay but it didn't touch them. Anybody know of a product I can try? I was thinking AIO or even VM but wasn't able to try them out.

Wow, what a coincidence...I did my friend's Black Evo 8 yesterday and also was VERY scruntched on time. The guy was suppsoed to bring it to me at 8 in the mornring...I got the car at 4 int he afternoon and only had 5 hours with it. Add to that the fact that it was going to be my first time detailing with a PC and you can already picture the results. I went over the car with SSR 2.5 and got the hang of the PC pretty fast...but it took almost nothing out. After that, I just put a coat of Souveran on and it looked nice and deep, but the swirls killed me. I thought i was doing something wrong but seems like that evo has the same problem....as I have read, Mitsu paint is terrible and very thin so there isn't much CC to work with anyways. I told him to come back in about a month and I woudl try it one mroe time but I would need ALOT more time.

Sorry, forgot to mention an important fact.

The paint I worked on was not Mitsubishi paint.

This car I worked on was re-painted about 6 months ago.

It's supposed to be a gold metallic black, but it's almost impossible to see any of the gold flakes except at the right angles, which is another thing which I'm trying to fix and bring out.

I myself have a Mitsubishi and haven't experienced any of these problems, although about 40% of my car has been repainted. :(
