ESPN - Oregon player suspended

COME AT ME BRO
Let me preface this by saying I really dislike Sportscenter, and I could really care less about college football.

I couldn't sleep this morning, so I got up early and was watching this "show." The topic came on about the Oregon player who sucker punched some other player. Where I started to get that odd look on my face was when one of the SC guys said that it was pretty much the Boise player's fault that the punch got thrown. Are you kidding me? Trash talking is part of it - how can you sit there and seriously make an excuse for this guy who threw a punch. A sucker punch at that. To top it off, the same SC guy said he thought it was really out of hand when the Oregon player looked like he was going to go in the stands. Are you serious....

What complete tools. Not only is that "show" absolutely annoying with all their stupid little phrases, now they apparently don't understand personal decisions to sucker punch a guy in the face.

I know why I can't stand to watch ESPN now.

Rant off... :D

Have been watching this moment in time from its inception. I certainly understand getting angry and I can certainly understand hitting someone. What I don't understand is the lack of fear and the justification of such an act.

This was a sports event. This was not life and death. It was not a real life endeavor. It is a foot ball game. Hitting is not allowed unless the clock is running. Once the clock stops there is a certain decorum that must be maintained.

Saying your sorry is a good start to admitting guilt. Being suspended is also a good sign. But I am sorry that this player will be terminated from the program for the remainder of the season. I do not believe the punishment befits the crime.:eek::yikes:

I had no idea about the incident until you brought it up. I no longer have cable and thus no ESPN so I don't have a clue as to the current SportsCenter lineup.

So I went to youtube to see what this was about.

YouTube - Legarrette Blount Punches Opposing Player. Boise State Broncos vs Oregon Ducks.

This sucker punch was a coward's act. Noting Blounts continued actions and the reports that he was suspended from the first practice for behavior issues, I think the season long dismissal is absolutely appropriate. Probably needs to be dismissed from campus.

Harsh but understandable over view of the whole situation.

Because I have lived such a lucky life...there go I except for the grace of God.

Hey the kid made a mistake. He admitted it. That one punch, the antics with the crowd, the effort to restrain him are all reprehensible but this one action should not require such a permanent action. It is not like the fellow that was knocked down will not be able to get up. None of the crowd will be scarred permanently. The security that was involved were there doing their job.

This football game was a momumental moment for Boise St.. They are not part of the BCS and it is the first time that a non BCS team beat a ranked BCS team. I am sure that both schools rammed that into the kids prior to the game. Pride, wanting to win, and I am sorry to say money all are factors that we are unaware of because we were not there.

To give such a permanent sentence(kicked off the team ) to a moment of misjudgement that left no permanent scars, it did not effect the outcome of the game, or the up coming schedule. In the whole scheme of things it is suspect at the very least. But more likely in my opinion it is malfeasance by the coach, staff, university, conference, NCAA, and BCS to give such finality to a young man's educational and financial future.

He that is without sin cast the first stone. I know I need to leave those stones on the ground.

Of course if this is the culmination of a multiple of sins that would mitigate my generous nature. I can only use the video of the act to make my judgement of this football players actions.

He was probably going through roid rage.

It is a little sad because they're role models. I guess we're all role models, but they have alot more exposure and are seen by millions. It's a violent sport and tempers run high driven by the passion to win. So when things aren't going your way, some folks just lash out. I think he should have gotten suspended, but for the entire year, idk. The guy made a mistake.

i think the right thing was done ..i played football and i never saw someone throwing punches over anything ..we have a certian group in our society who continue to try and disregard rules and codes of conduct because they may not have had any boundaries growing up or they have no respect at all for themselves or others .. i also like what roger goodell is doing in the NFL ...hopefully this player's football career is over .. that sends a real strong message

Upon further review, he also took a swipe at a teammate and had to be restrained from going towards a fan. He lost total control of himself. How unfortunate.
