Dynos appear to be very dangerous devices. I like the follow up video of the hole in the block. I think there is a reason why engine builders use engine stand dynos.
Dyno is a nice tool during tuning to measure results of tweaks/changes to the base tune/map.wow I`m not a speed guy, but what`s the point of pushing your car that hard? I mean is it just to get a print out of it`s performance kinda of like a drag race on paper or do they use them to adjust and tune to make the car faster? I can`t imagine seeing one of those diesel trucks on the fwy going that fast...
Dyno is a nice tool during tuning to measure results of tweaks/changes to the base tune/map.
Lotsa folks like to get the nice printout of peak hp/to curves just to compare to others (bragging rights/bench racing) but that`s pretty pointless given the disparity between dyno types (DynoJet, Mustang, others), climate conditions, SAE correction factors and such that can skew results.
When we had our car tuned it was a somewhat harrowing afternoon as they likely did 10+ WOT pulls to get timing, fueling and other parameters to a reasonably safe, yet improved, state of tune. While the resulting graph was fun to look at, the real results were shown at the end of the 1/4 mile.
And they always make you sign a release before strapping car down as, well, stuff happens.

Pretty much. Shops make decent money having `Dyno Days` where they`ll host a club, $75 or so (used to be anyway) for 3 pulls with air/fuel readings.Ahh well that makes more since if your tunning, but seems like most guys are bench racing...
