PAINT CORRECTION AND CLEAR BRA REMOVAL
One of my good clients recently picked up this car. Immediately, he knew I would need to get over there and correct the paint! This client is rather picky, so I could tell from his tone that it wasn’t going to be pretty!

Upon arrival, I immediately though to myself, WOW, how can someone drive this around? It’s a nice car with a nice color but that was hindered by all the swirls, faded clear film, scratches, light oxidation, etc. After talking things over in person, we elected to remove the hammered clear bra as there was no restoring it via polishing and compounding. (It doesn’t correct like paint). Once removed, the paint still needed some work.

Before Film Condition

So then I started to remove it. Luckily he had been out and about driving it so it was in the sun all day already. This makes removing the film easier as the adhesive softens and comes off with the film...or so I thought!

Adhesive left behind. Talked to a film company and he said too much promoter was used and this is the typical result from that. Ended up taking some 3m adhesive remove to get most of it off, and tehn I just compounded the rest off. It was taking way to look to remove all the adhesive alone and it wasn’t getting all of it anyway.

This is the difference in what the film removed left behind (better looking paint)

All the while the film did its job, the car wasnt not polished properly before the installation. This is something Ill never understand…

Before with the film / after without the film (no polishing done)

Damage to the paint – this is how the whole car looked.

Clayed the car, needless to say, MUCH NEEDED.

Finally the after shots. Ended up Very well corrected, near perfect!

Total work time on this car was 14 hours.

Clear bra removal from hood, fenders, rear quarters, bumper, headlights

Wash, clay, prep

Three step the hood, two step the rest of the car

Clean paint and apply sealant wax

Wheels, tires, windows, door, jambs, vacuuming, exhaust tips

Nice work Eric! I hate remove PPF, especially when it leaves behind adhesive!

How are you not using the Speedy Prep towel by now? :D

Nice work, Eric! Your customer should be stoked about what he bought! I am still amazed the clear bra installers will lay film over paint that needs correction!

Great job, that paint was in rough shape. It amazes me how people will lay those clear bras over just about any condition paint.

Chad, I have it and use it, but it mars the hell out of the paint no matter what lube I use. It has been heated up and stuck together a few times, maybe thats the problem and its now ruined? leaves lots of straight line scratches that take a bit to remove! I use it on jacked up cars not going for close to perfect though...like work trucks and the like.

That sucks. I've been using it on every car I do and have yet to see it marr the paint. I did have the 6" pad version marr on a bumper cover, but that's it. I've only used Glide with them for lube.

I'd pick up another one and see if it was just the melting...makes sense to me. ;)
