Since buying my GTI almost a year ago, I`ve needed to do a proper engine bay detail. I don`t know that it`s ever possible to get into every nook and corner, especially on a modern car, but I think it came out pretty well. I also decided to remove the airbox for better access. If you look closely you can probably find one or two areas that aren`t perfect, but even after covering up electrical connectors, I was still pretty cautious in some areas. Not sure how the pros do it.
I used McKee`s 37 Engine De greaser, which worked really well and did not require a lot of scrubbing. Went over the under side of the hood, plastic covers, and more accessible areas with ONR. Finished off with Sonus Motor Kote, which leaves a wonderful dark matte sheen.
