Einszett Cockpit Premium seems like an interesting product, it claims a matte finish, while cleaning and protecting in the same step. After testing, I must say I have some mixed feelings regarding this product. The smell is somewhat strong upon initial application, it does clean well and leaves a nice matte finish, however, its actual protective qualities are questionable IMO.
The initial smell is hardly anything but “fresh IMO. It’s a rather strong, and over perfumed, clean sent that I’m not personally all that fond of. Luckily the smell fades away after a few days. If you do you whole interior in this stuff you might need to let the windows down for a bit so it can air out. As for cleaning, it does quite well, it gently removes dirt. It seems safe for many surfaces and I noted no ill effects on any of my test material. It works on plastics, leather, and just about anything you can imagine. It left a nice matte even finish on all surfaces and didn’t streak at all. Einszett also claims anti-static abilities, which I have yet to determine. Removing the product was easy, just like wiping off water.
Now, where I begin to question this product is in its “protectant qualities. It’s a light blue liquid, almost like windshield washer fluid. Just from looking at it you can tell it contains a great deal of water, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s certainly not the tradition water based resin format. Next think I noticed, it has ZERO darkening abilities like 303. It does not change the look of the surface at all (either in a good or bad way), it’s basically like applying water to the surface. I feel this is important. Resins are not clear, and they will alter the surface in some way or another. Typically this is a slightly darker surface, or a satin surface. I just don’t see that with this product. Einszett claims it “restores surfaces, again I didn’t notice this. The surface looked exactly the same before application as it did after. How can a product “restore surfaces but clearly does not darken black plastic trim? :nixweiss
So, while is does clean well and leaves a nice matte finish, I don’t think I will rely on this product for any serious UV protection. It certianly will not be replacing 303 for me. On a side note, Cockpit Premium does work pretty well on engine bay plastic!
Pros: Cleans Well, Matte Finish, Easy removal & application
Cons: Questionable protecting abilities, smell can be strong
My 2 cents.
