Egg on Paint

A couple of days ago my sister in laws house got egged along with her Escalde and my BIL's Impala SS, my BIL let the egg sit on there all day and now it has eaten right through the paint on both vehicles.

Now my BIL is a bit lazy when it comes to paint care, he does not use any kind of wax or sealant at all, instead he just uses some QD that I gave him (PB's QD+), I have tried to get him to use some sort of protection, I even offered to maintain the cars myself, but he refuses. He said that a wax or sealant would have not made any difference on the egg, I say that it would have if he would have caught it soon enough.
I have had instances where bird doo has sat on my paint a good day baking in the sun, and I hit it with a little squirt of water and the stuff just slides off with no damage.

What are your guys thoughts on the issue?

A good sealant will make a big difference. Eggs are nasty little paint destroyers though so you definitely need to get it off asap whether there is sealant or not.

unfortunately he's right ..unless you get it immediately eggs will eat through just about anything :( My mom's car was egged too and I got a lot of it off with APC but it still did some damage:wall

The chips in the paint come from the egg shell hitting the vehicle. The staining/ething is from the egg white/yolk. Wax may have bought you a little more time.

I've seen bird poo etch paint within hours...others have been fine for days. I don't think the wax/sealant has much to do with it. I think it's more a matter of what the bird ate! A nasty bird poo will laugh at the most durable sealants on the market IMO. ;)

I agree with what's been posted...but how bad are we talking about??

once you've cleaned up the paint...is it etched pretty deep or just dulled badly?

:dcrules Your B.I.L. Doesn't seem to care that much. So niether would I. Some people even with extremely nice cars just don't seem to really care what happens to there ride. Beats me :wall:wall:wall:cool::dcrules

its etched pretty deep, you can feel it in the clear. Im going to do a little wetsanding and see if I cant smooth it out. The bad thing it was black paint, and we had a nice warm sunny day, it sat there all day that way.

I would start with a rotary and a light cutting pad...and some decent polish to start and see what comes of that...wet sanding is pretty aggressive and you might be able to pull most of that out or lets say lighten it up to make it look better before wet sanding

hope you took pictures and then call the insurance agent

Yup, they did that today.
I really feel bad for them, she just bought her Escalade not too long ago, something she has been working towards for some time, she finally gets it and this happens. really stinks.

yes it is and make sure they get it repaired well :rockon

Got a good look at the egg damage today, the two on the hood are really bad, it actually made the paint shrink and crack, so much so that primer is showing, looks like a paint job is around the corner.
