Edge 2000 System Question

Well, I have been using meguiars pads for about a year now, and am ready to try something else. The Edge 2000 pads have always been of interest to me since they do not require a backing plate, and they are double sided. My question is I am not sure which pads to get of the 4. Right now, I only use the PC, however I will be purchasing a rotary by the end of the month. The main products I use are Meguiars (#80, #83, #07, #21, #66). Would anyone, perhaps, care to fill me in on what pads, in the edge 2000 system, I should order? Any help would be very appreciated!

I love Edge pads. I use the 2000 6" wave pads for polishing on a Makita rotary and a P/C.

I think the green pad is strong, I take 2000 grit wet sanding marks out with it.

I use the blue for polishing.

I use the white flat for waxing on the P/C.

When the 4" pads come out, Ill be on those also.

Green and blue would be a good start. If you want to apply #21 with a pad use the white. I apply #21 by hand since it goes on easy . :buffing:

what about orange? Thats between blue and green, and is still harsh enough to pruduce micro-marring with 83.

I'm a newb, so don't take my advice too seriously... This IS what i've seen from personal experience though.

Do you guys actually use the green and 83 to remove serious problems? Can the damage caused by the green be removed with 80 and a blue? thanks, and sorry to thread jack!!

I use the orange and blue most often. Sometimes hit the green while using OC to deal with the worst of the things I've had to deal with. Never felt the need to use yellow yet.

I have found the orange to be very effective at removing swirls while using the Optimum Compound, and I've never seen any marring or holograms yet. Blue with Optimum Polish makes the finish so perfect it's hard for a newbie like me to believe.

I have never even used my white pad yet, as I feel it's just about as easy to apply the LSP's by hand.

If you don't want to spend the money on the full kit, you can't go wrong with the orange and blue unless you have some serious defects to deal with.

Just a quick question, I have the Edge 2000 system in 8 inch for the rotary, and I was wondering if with the PC adapter it would work out fine? Or is the 8 inch too much for the PC? Thanks in advance.

You will not get any cut with an 8" pad on the PC. You need a 6 or even a 4 for more cut.

I use the EDGE2K system all the time. I can't say enough good things about them. To me, the most versitile pad is the Green. I use it for one steppers. It gives me cut and finishes of nice. My next fave is the white for waxes and sealants. It just holds the chemical right on the surface of the pad. This system is also very durable. I machine wash them daily with no probs.

Thanks all for chiming in!

Justin - thanks for the tidbit about machine washing! That is good to know they are safe in the washer machine!

I ordered the following from Autogeek:

2 Green 6" Pads

2 White 6" Pads

2 Blue 6" Pads

1 Yellow 6" Pad

1 Orange 6" Pad

Edge 2000 Quick Disconnect Adapter

And then this other stuff came with the package, even though I don't need this stuff, the $99 package was pretty good deal so I couldn't turn it down.

- 2 Cobra Edgle Microfibers

- 12 oz XMT Pad Cleaner

- 12 Oz Pad Conditioner

- 2 Cobra 70/30 Microfiber Bonnets

:getdown

I've got an M3 (I was actually supposed to work on it last sunday, but when my Meguiars backing plate broke, I had to postpone) this coming thursday so I will be giving the new pads a workout! I can't wait!
