So as most of you know I have a Torrid Red procharged gto that I love messing around with. My winter project that I wanted to get done is a really nice built 6 speed trans and new Mcleod RXT twin disk clutch setup. My current trans shifts good but like most things with miles getting up there it was going to be time for a refresh along with a new clutch setup.
About a couple months ago I was browsing the GTO classifieds and a fellow owner whom I know was looking to sell his built t56 out of his 800whp gto that I know he hardly ever used. He didn`t know a ton about it except that it cost him quite a bit of money to hold 1000hp. Being a little unsure about exactly what was in it I still wanted it and struck a deal that ended up being a killer score for me in the long run!
A about a week later the transmission arrived on a nice pallet. Upon looking at it I noticed it had a tag riveted on from Rockland Standard Gear. My eyes lit up. Anyone who knows about them can attest that they were building killer transmissions long before some of the other big names now. On the tag it had a part number and a BOM number. So I called them up to get some more info. Long story short this trans is one of there top shelf " Tranzilla" units that msrp for almost 8k!!!! With the trans secured I ordered up the clutch and hydraulics to go with it and today I just dropped it all off to my guy Don, owner of Slowhawk Performance to get it all installed. One more thing checked off the list. Next year hopefully a driveshaft shop built 9 inch IRS setup and then time to really let it eat at the track!
