Duragloss Rain Repel

During lunch, I went shopping at my local Carquest. I saw they have DG Rain Repel Glass Cleaner on sale for $4.99. I picked up a bottle of this, and FCS. On the back of the RR, it appears as though this product could also be used as a QD? Has anyone tried this? It states, "can be used as a cleaner and gloss enhancer on painted surfaces, chrome, almost any non-porous surface". Just curious...

I have went through a few bottles of DG RR and find that it works quite well. I have used it, not as a QD, more like an AW type product it did add slickness and seemed to bead really well. However, I have so many other products for paint, I keep the RR on the glass.

My favorite use for it is to add 4-5 oz. of it to my homemade windshield washer solution consisting of 8 oz. of ONR to a gallon of Distilled Water.

For $5 you cant really go wrong.

kkreit01,

I'm a big fan of RR. It's the SLICKEST glass cleaner I've ever used. I love the stuff. I've not tried using as a QD, but if you follow the link below, you'll find that some one else from the AG board has and really likes it.

NSXTASY,

Great idea about using ONR in a home-made washer fluid recipe. I'm going to have to try that along with a few ounces of RR in there as well. What do you do in the winter time to prevent it from freezing up?

How Do you get it not to streak and trap water spots? It is easy to use/apply, but a pain when it comes to streaks. Also, when it rains, and I dont turn on the wipers, my glass looks soo filthy, as if RR trapped all the dirt in the rain. Also, it smears when you turn on the wipers. Maybe a wipedown with distilled water could take care of the streaks?

purple,

I've not had problems with streaking. In fact, I've been having issues with streaking with other glass cleaners and that is why I switched over to RR. During the hot summer days, I find it practically impossible to get the glass completely streak free. I've used DP, Stoners, Meg's Detailer line, etc. I had streaking problems with all of them in the sun. I actually resorted to using Meg's Last Touch QD which worked well. I haven't tested RR in the really hot weather yet, but the fact that RR leaves behind protection and it's really slick makes me like it. As far as streaking with the wipers, I've not had the problem.

I have some and use it for odds and ends . I personally like the FC&S on windows . I understand what you mean about the streaking on the windshield .

I bought an old, dusty bottle from CarQuest that looked like it had sat there for years as the bottle itself had discolored. I don't know if I was just used to AW, but this product seems to require more work buffing off than AW as it seems to smear/streak just slightly (compared to AW on glass). The application requires about as much effort as Rain X (liquid spray bottle version). But with hardly any rain here in SoCal, I can't say if it works any better than AW or Rain X.

If you already have a bottle of AW, just use that on your glass. Rain Repel is meant for exterior use only, and although it's a glass cleaner/protectant in one, usually I clean my windows AFTER I've already washed the car, so I really do not need a glass cleaner for the outside of my windows. And since AW seems to work fine on glass too, this product seems a bit redundant for me as I have plenty of AW. I do like the idea of being able to use this diluted 4:1 with water to add to my windshield washer reservoir though. I will probably try that out instead next time and see how it compares to OTC windshield washer fluid I've tried in the past.

Thanks for the info. I experiment with it some more.

BTW - Get Surf City Garage glass cleaner. Best. Glass. Cleaner. Ever!

No streaking in any temp, humidity, etc...

I use this and I really like it. It cleans really well and leaves no streaks for me.

You might be using too much, one full pump for the windshield is all I ever use... As such I've had a bottle for about a year and its only 1/2 gone...

Whenever I see rain in the forecast I go spray some on the windshield, I rarely use the wipers...

Thanks for your input everyone. Sounds like I'll be liking this. I'll probably just use it on Exterior glass for now -- since I have AW and FC&S for everything else. I was actually impressed with my Carquest yesterday. They got a new floor, organized and priced everything, dusted, etc. They still have the DG 108 SUV Polish. I was tempted to get some more, but I still have some of it, and 101. My next venture will be the marine polish.

I tried the FC&S last night for the first time (on my hood). Wow -- what a difference between it, and my Big Lot specials (Zymol Detail & Black Magic QD).
