Duragloss question

Just stopped at Car Quest to pick up some 441/221 for my wife's leather seats and decided to pick up a few other items to try out since I've only had experience with OTC products (I never new Car Quest carried the stuff). I got a bottle of #652 (precleaner) and a bottle of #111 (clear coat polish) because they were out of the #101. Will the 652 followed by the 111 work out well? All I have here at the house is some Meg's NXT, will that be ok with the other 2 products? The guy there at CQ told me not to use anything on top of the #111 but I thought I'd better ask y'all.

Use the 652 first and then follow with the 111 sealant. 111 is more durable than NXT, so I would not top with NXT. Besides the mild cleaners in NXT would likely compromise the 111. So, I'd just leave Meguiar's on the shelf....

Oh, the 111 is a sealant? I thought it was just a milder polish to follow the 652. Really glad I asked. Thank you

Yes, the 111 is a pure polymer sealant, with no cleaners or abrasives of any kind. It is intended as a LSP, to lay down pure protection and shine. Like Zaino, DG calls their sealants "polishes" which can tend to be confusing.

I see you use the 105. What is the difference between it and the 111? And is the AW an actual wax, or more like a quick detailer?

I appreciate your help and apologize for my ignorance.

In short, 105 is DG's newest sealant and is head and shoulders better than 111 or 101. It is very easy to use, looks much better than 111 and is even more durable. I would highly recommend getting 105 over the 111 or 101. The 111 and 101 sealants are pretty dated and have been without update for a long time.

AW is a liquid spray wax that can be used as a standalone LSP or as a nice booster to the 105 or 111 sealants. I am getting about 2.5-3 months on my AW applications, when used as standalone LSP.

TigerMike,

I have used Duragloss since I started detailing cars and LOVE the product! I find that the AW is like day old spaghetti....it looks it's best the day after you put it on. I do have questions though. Would it be a waste of prodcut and time to put something like an S100 or Souveran over the top of the 105? I know that those are higher end products but was wondering if a good carnuba would make any difference over the 105......Thanks!

Mose,

Awesome! Glad to hear of your success and enjoyment with the DG products!

As to your question, I personally think it is a waste to apply S100 or Souveran on top of the 105. But, it depends on what you are after. No doubt, those products will have a more oily/warm and deep appearance, due to the heavy oil content. If you are looking to deepen you paint marginally, then it may be worth it. I cannot say what you might like or not like on your own finish. So, I would suggest if you are seriously thinking of topping 105, then try maybe half the hood with a topper and then carefully inspect it and see if you think it is worth the effort to do the whole car. For me, I like to be able to add more 105 whenever I like, and adding a topper will negate this ability. And, I also really like the appearance of 105 on its own. All personal preference, which is why I suggest you try a section and see for yourself. In the end, you are a much better judge of what you prefer for your car, than I am. :)

Regards,

Mike

I hadn't thought of not being able to add more layers of #105. Thanks for mentioning that!

I too enjoy throwing a quick coat on and enjoying the look! I guess that answers my question! LOL!! Don't know if you have seen any of my recent posts but I am getting ready to do a BLACK Lexus SC430 and was thinking about going with a higher end "boutique" product. Someone told me that I should go with what I know (DG) and see what happens. I have checked the "Click & Brag" and can't find anyone that has done a car like this with DG product. Maybe I will check your gallery to see if you have any.

I do like the idea of doing a car like this, and when I say "like this" I mean what I consider to be an upper tier car, with a supposed OTC product like DG. I will definetly post pics when I am through.

Thanks for the help!!

Sorry to dig this back up but I have a question about application. The 111 came with it's own pad but should I use the 652 with a foam pad or microfiber pad? Does it matter? I tried searching but all I can find is info on PC pads and I'll be doing this by hand.

Ive used the 652 with a green foam pad.........Its not a very aggressive polish by any stretch of the imagination, whereas the Pink Buffing Gel is about twice as effective. 652 is great for VERY light swirls and webs.

OH SHOOT! Your doing this by hand....Go with a MF pad for a little additional bite. You;ll find it a little more difficult with the MF, but is should yield better results for you.

I agree 105 is their newest and best. I also would use the 601 PBA underneath.

I was hessitant to use Aquawax because I thought is was a wax. Its actually a spray sealant. It was made to use after washing while the car is still wet. But has proven to be an excellent stand alone or QD.

If you are trying to remove swirls and scracthes by hand I would use the 671.

This is 3 layers of Duragloss 105 applied in September topped with Collinite 845 applied 2 or 3 weeks ago and then topped with S100 applied on Saturday. The picture was taken on Monday after a heavy rain the night before and the car was not QDed. Did it make a huge difference, no. I don't think you would be able to tell the difference between 105 alone and 105 topped in a picture. However it did not hurt the finish, was good exercise, and relieved boredom. :D

Mike, i have to argue this one...........111 is some pretty awesome stuff, its so easy (well, so is 105) to apply and remove and leaves stellar results.

I was hessitant to use Aquawax because I thought is was a wax.

It is a wax/sealant.
