Drying with MFs

Just finished using my first MF towel to dry the car after washing and I'm a little disappointed in how it behaved.



The MF absorbed most of the water, leaving behind little trails of water beads. Even after re-wiping, wringing the MF, and re-wiping again, there were still little trails of water beads left behind. This seemed to get better the more I used the MF, but never to the point where I didn't want to use a cotton towel to finish the dry.



Is this what the MF is supposed to do when used for drying?



Are the waffle weave MFs (like the Big Blue Towel) better at drying? With or without this same problem?

I've found that the waffle weave Big Blue Drying towel does a lot better job than the larger Neatitems MF terry towels I have. I'm going to try some of the JT Int. waffle towels. I have the same problem with the Neatitems towels in that they absorb a lot but leave trails behind, but the Big Blue towels work perfectly.

I usually use a larger micro fiber towel as a follow-up to using the Absorber which I think works pretty well to picking most of the water. The micro fiber towel is good as a final detail towel to catch the water in cracks and openings.



Never tried the waffle weave micro fiber towels but heard a lot of good things about the JT International waffle weave micro fiber towels. You might want to give it a try.

do a search for the perfect drying. thats what it's called I think.



What I do is wash half of car (wheels first) then let waer flow freely from top of the body down, and most will be gone. then dab with a mf. It'll get it all up.



A MF will not soak up all the water you put on yourduring a wash. You must rty to get as much of it off before the mf as possible.
 
Get a Big Blue Towel for drying. It will be the last thing you ever use!

Go with a two-towel system...the first one to pick up most of the water, and the second one to pick up the water trails left behind by the first one.
 
What Brad said...I have 2 and never have to wring them out when drying my car...they are that absorbant!!
 
I use one of the huge 28''x54'' waffle weave towels from JT International. It works just like the BBT only bigger, and it's mint green instead of Blue. These things are huge, plus they are only $16.50.:xyxthumbs
 
Here's another vote for the JT International waffle weave. Use a synthetic chamois/absorber or whatever to blot dry first, then follow-up with waffleweave, you won't be disappointed.
 
Sounds like time to upgrade to a couple of waffle weaves for drying. I'll probably get some regular MFs in the same order (to make good use of the shipping cost).

The last time I washed the car, I used the absorber on it, and then followed that up with a MF. Worked great! (I also rinse without the nozzle on the hose, just free flow, and most of the water sheets off instead of beading.)
 
California Water Blade for windows, roof, trunk and hood. Then 1 BBT towel will easily do the rest of the car without ANY beads or trails of water. The BBT towel rocks. However, based on what many have said here I would try the blade with a JT international waffle weave for economy and value. My $.02.
 
Personally, I take a very different approach.



First, I use waffle weave towels from JT International.



Second, I use the "perfect drying technique" to sheet most of the water off the car.



Third, and most importantly, I NEVER wipe the car with the towel. When you wipe the surface, you only encourage water trails and streaks. I believe this is because you're smearing the water instead of forcing it into the towel. Instead, I blot it dry. I bunch up the towel and press down on the bead of water. This forces the towel to absorb the water. It's also better because if there is a dirt on the towel, I'm not scraping it across the surface.



I'm also going to buy a California water blade. I just saw NYDetailer use one and it worked like magic.

I don't mean to bump up a dead thread, but I've been using the search function all afternoon to learn some things, and i'm wondering as the previous poster was, where does one buy these?

And the quality is pretty good. I have never personally bought micro fiber towels from Tom but heard his a great guy to do business with and the prices on his waffle micro fiber towels are good. I hope that helps.
