Greetings from a newbie!
I luckily stumbled across this forum a few weeks back shortly after buying a new Passat. I've tried all kinds of polishes/waxes in the past and never found one that seemed to last more than a month or so. (My car is parked outside most of the time.) After I bought the Passat (2001.5 Colorado Red), I found a new desire to keep this car perfect as long as possible, and was very happy to find this forum. I read the archives with intent for a couple of days, and decided to try out the Klasse products.
I also have a couple of old VW cars ('56 Bug and a '57 Bus), that I wanted to get a true super-gloss look. I was entering the Bug is a car show that same weekend and ordered a combo kit of AIO and SG from TACS. Because they were out of the 16oz bottles, he sent the 32oz bottles for the same price! I was very impressed with their friendliness and willingness to ship the product fast so that I could use it that weekend.
Anyhow, the following week, I followed the suggestions on the forum here, and stripped the Passat down with Dawn and did 2 AIOs and 3 SGs over the course of the next couple of days. Now the Passat already looked fantastic, but WOW! It now has such a rich shine, and the paint is slippery and so smooth.
This last week, after deciding to sell my wife's 96 Integra GSR, I decided to give it the treatment. I must say my impression of AIO as a _cleaner_ is somewhat poor. It does not remove much in the way of sap or bug guts that my wash job did not get. In contrast, my past experience with Meguiar's Cleaner Wax is very different. Meguiars seems to get all that kind of crap off the car very easily. I didn't notice this AIO issue with the Passat, since the paint was pretty much perfect already.
Anyhow I stripped down the Integra and after my experience with her car, I personally think the Acura black and dark green paints are trashy. (My overall opinion of her car is that it is a freaking tin can that is soooooo loud on the freeway....but is fun to vtec up to 8000rpm...) Hers is dark green and it chips easy and has swirl marks. Anyhow, even though the AIO didn't do too much in the cleaning department, her car looks 1000 times better. It has a much glossier look, and the swirls are gone.
I read up on claying the car, and found a Mother's clay kit, which seems to be fairly well recommended (better than the Meguiar's stuff). I plan to try this on her car this weekend, as her car has all kinds of contaminants and problems. I want to see if am up to the challenge of making a poor looking car look new again. I'll post before and after pictures if I get a chance. Sad to do this just before selling it, but I am curious to learn how well the clay bar does in smooting the paint out.
Anyhow, my experience with Klasse on my Bug was fantastic. It now has a great shine and was very well received at the car show.
Thanks to everyone on the forum for their insight!
