I am thinking of buying for a friend a pair of driving gloves and those wheelskins deerskin ones look interesting.
Anyone using them? Feedback? Alternatives? How do they feel in hot/sunny conditions?
Thanks in advance.
Compare my take on it with that of

I too used to wear driving gloves, though not the wheelskins ones (wore Gates and the "Signature" ones that were made-to-measure). Actually, I wore them a lot when I was younger and I still wear them, now and then, in certain situations. They can feel great on thinner steering wheels, especially wood or plastic ones. For some reason I don't like 'em much on thick leather wheels, but that's just me.
For me, wearing gloves in hot weather is pretty much the same whether you're driving or doing something else, but at least in the car you probably have A/C. But the A/C doesn't stop the sun from coming through the windshield and cooking your leather-encased hands. Is the grip and/or feel worth it? That's up to individual preference. For me, most of the time it's *not* worth it.
If (more like "when") your hands sweat, there will almost always be dye transfer staining your hands. This usually stops after the excess dye bleeds out, but it can be a (cosmetic) issue. So somebody wears their nice new driving gloves somewhere, pulls 'em off, and their hands are all stained up! Not fun.
I bet that *most* people won't like/use them. One of those "oh, that's nice..." gifts that sits in a drawer most of the time.
