At the risk of sounding like a pessimist, I dunno if I'd want to trust that backing plate. Besides being too inexpensive to be confidence-inspiring (well, for me at least), it's presumably designed to be minimally durable for a *rotary* application (i.e., the drill), remember that RO/DA machines impart a *LOT* more stress on the backing plate. People break good 6" backing plates all the time, sometimes with disastrous results. So I bet it'd be OK right up until there's a catastrophic failure.



Might be OK for waxing though...



Again, sorry to be a wet blanket. But I wouldn't want anybody to mess up their vehicle over trying to save a few bucks.
 
I'd think it'd be good for headlight restoration with a drill.



That's a good point about the DA. It's going to have to deal with forces that a rotary tool wouldn't impart on them at all.
