Drill Attachments Instead of DA Buffer?

Since I`ll be doing any paint or detailing work part of the year outside during good weather, does it make sense to try using a corded drill with good quality pads? Lots cheaper than a good d.a. buffer.

Has anyone gone the drill route and gotten good results? Any product recommendations?

Thank you.

Mass. Wine Guy- Noting that I`ve never actually tried it...

Back in the day I did try a sanding disk attachment on a drill (both corded/less) and found it quite awkward. Can`t imagine doing more than a panel or so with it. I put it in the "if we get this into production, enough people will buy `em for us to make a profit" category, rather than"you oughta just buy this instead of bothering with a separate polisher".

several years ago I purchased the Meguiar`s DA drill attachment tool and used it on a few vehicles because it was all I could afford (harbor freight didn`t have their DA in stock)
I used it on my frontier before I coated it with PBL (v1), my challenger, and I used it on a corvette as well. then I saved up more money and bought a regular polisher because you could get decent results with it, but it takes a lot more time and effort

The first time that "attachment" skips out and chips the paint when the drill hits the paint you`ll regret not buying the right tool for the job.

I thought you settled on the Harbor Freight DA.

I did. But Amazon has a few pretty savage reviews. Still, at its current price of $70, it`s half the price of the Griot`s. I can modify it a little. I decided that I`d start with a 5 inch backing plate and 5 1/2 inch pads.

How many pads of each type and what`s the rasist way to clean them?

Oops! Sorry. Someone was kind enough to furnish that information.

You can find the HF DA for $50 or less if your store lets you ge creative with coupons:

The drill attachment, while better than by hand, is going to be way more trouble than it is worth. I`d go mow a few lawns to get the money for the DA before I wasted a couple of days trying to polish a car with one of those. Even with the HF DA, a good polish job can take upwards of 6-8 hours on a car with less than perfect paint.
