Took advantaged of my Highline Metter II today. Check my paint how's my clearcoat thickness doing and I'm down to 4 microns left! Is it The End? Can I not polish anymore? Experts please help out thanks!

!!! How many times did you buff your car! And was it only 1 area on continuously everywhere? I think it was time to stop a while ago. Yikes... Unless the PTG is being off?

4 MICRONS, you could literally erode that much clear coat by just running a stream of fresh water of the paint :D :D :D

I would say you have one or two more rounds left...2-3.5 is about the lowest you can SAFELY go from what i read. 2 is at the primer level

2-3.5 is it really? I think it's time I should retire my DA lol.

Careful- If you have a light surface coat of bondo/body filler you may be closer than you think.

Since its non metalic it wont show up with the gauge!

4 mils is about normal paint thickness these days for base coat/clear coat finishes. My car had 3.8-4 mil paint thickness on it when I got it a little more than 2 years ago and I've polished it a few times and paint thickness is relatively unchanged.

I guess it depends on what you are using. With a 4" pad on a PC and some 105, I get get from 110 microns down to 80 in 60 seconds.

^^That's well over 1 mil of paint? That's crazy!

Yep, its nuts, we were doing a friend of mine's car and he is pretty paranoid about his paint, he had about a dozen scratches on the car, only two that were too deep to fix. He wanted to make sure I didn't get to deep, so we set 80 microns as the stop point. We measured the paint before, during and after. I was blown away by how fast 105 cuts on a yellow pad. Granted its staying in a very localized area, but still.

I use a rotary on my car. Used #105 on several areas.
