Door jams part of Interior or Exterior Detail?

Some customers like to have detail packages that are defined as "interior" or "exterior" for their vehicles.

Would you include door jams as part of the interior or exterior package?

Maybe it's trivial, but I was wondering what the pros thought.

Thanks.

i consider door jambs "interior". But I usually will wipe them down when just doing an "exterior" detail. Usually with S&W.

I think a case could be made for either. I don't offer my customer's packages, but I think if I did, I would clean the jams for either.

Regardless of interior or exterior detail, I clean the door jambs. However when its interior specific, I degrease (if needed), wash, and gloss.

I class them as part of an exterior detail on the basis that I tend to use more external products/precesses on them, such as degreaser, water, hose pipes and pressure washers.

I consider them to be exterior. They're painted just like the panels of the body. IMO that makes it an exterior part. But like others, I give them a quick wipe regardless.

It can go either way, I always clean them when just doing a straight wash. I usually go ahead and clean them though since I do dress the weather stripping when I do interior details.

Both to me. Give them a wipedown for a quick wash or interior clean.

If you do a more thorough exterior or interior detail then probably also use some OCW or similar on the jams.

I'll clarify a bit, since it seems (to me mostly) like my comment above sounds a bit negligent.

I consider doorjams "interior" because you have to open the doors. Many customers who want exterior only want just that because they are not available on-site when I am there.

If I am doing strictly exterior when the vehicle is unlocked, I will wipe them down with some QD or S+W. If interior is included, then I will fully degrease, wash, and wax.

What he said. And it is always good to remove any heel marks made when getting in and out of the car.

I consider it exterior, for the same reason as Neothin as well as when I wash it gets them wet anyway. I wipe them down either way also, but dont degrease and thoroughly clean them unless its an exterior detail or requested.

Actually, you have uncovered the major reason why I only offer a complete detailing package which includes both the interior and exterior. As you can already see by many of different replies to this thread, it gets way to confusing trying to explain to every customer what the boundaries are for what's included in an exterior detail and what's included in an interior detailing.

For example: When you do an exterior detail, of course the exterior windows are usually included, however do you also include doing the interior glass too? Or do you just leave that for when the customer gets an interior detail?

I would much rather tell a customer; no I do not offer just interior cleaning or just exterior cleaning. I simply explain the benefits of doing a complete and thorough cleaning of both the interior and exterior.

Try doing an exterior detail and not wiping the jambs. There's a strong chance that the customer will never return......For the 5-10 minutes it takes, it definately worth it. I also do door jambs with interior details. Every interior details gets washed too. I degrease the jambs and blast away.

More proof of how confusing it is trying to explain to every customer what the boundaries are for what's included in an exterior detail and what's included in an interior detailing.
