Don't use the PC hook & loop plate...

Used this with an LC orange pad last week (brand new). The plate is not flexible and the edges are sharp so it cut right through the foam all the way around the velcro. I couldn't believe it when I went to remove the pad after using SSR 2.5. I was wondering where the orange coloured dust was coming from!

Yah I had that same problem. Posted about it last fall. Ruined a few good pads that way. THe yellow flexible ones are much better.

I'm afraid I don't understand! Are you speaking of the backing plate that comes with something like the "Sonus DAS pad kit"? Sorry, I'm an idiot.

Sounds like your backing plate is bigger than the velcro area of your pads. Others have complained of this same thing and they switched to different pads that had velcro that covered the plate and the probelm went away.:)

Nope, thats a good one as it's flexable.

He is talking about the one that actually comes from Porter Cable (the polisher version, or purchased seperatly from PC) It is a hard/non-flexable backing plate...

This is the one I'm referring to:

It seems fine for light polishing with a white LC pad, but using something more aggressive where you need to use some pressure means that you end up pushing the sharp plate edges into the compressed foam. I'll try and post a pic of the pad tonight.

I received this included with my PC purchased from Coastal Tools.

I am with 94BlkStang. The plate was bigger than the velcro backing on the pad. I've been using that backing plate since I started using the pc. It has yet to destroy any pads. I am using 7.5' LC pads.

Oh that pad..Nope, I used when i 1st got the PC and I have no problem with it. Now, im using the 5" fleix one.

I use a yellow, 3M "Hook-It" plate on mine. Only thing that can be a hassle is taking a pad off since the velcro is so strong!!

I have the yellow 5" plate. Ruined one LC orange pad and my second is staring to go. I think it has to do with applying pressure to the pad with the PC, it cuts right into it.

At first I thought it was a defect in the pad, but I am not really sure.

Yes, it's definitely a combination of the overlap from the plate onto the foam because it's bigger than the pad loop area and the fact that it's razor sharp around the outside edge of the plate.

Is the Lake Country flexible yellow velcro plate larger than the loop area on their 6" pads? I'm looking at this one now because it's the only one available from Canadian distributors, as are those pads. Thanks.

I just had a problem last weekend with my Sonus DAS kit. My Orange pad lasted One pass around the car before it developed a 'crack/seperation' around the white velcro backing for about 4 to 5 inches! I was using SSR2.5

I just did my hood yesterday afternoon with the Blue pad and SSR1 to get rid of the marring, and I noticed a 1/2 inch 'seperation' in the pad already!!!! Gotta email David Again, with pictures and the like........

I did receive a new, free Orange pad from Autopia car care yesterday, but it looks as though I either received a Bad Batch, or something else is amiss in shirewood forest.......

Could the 'stock/kit' backing plate be too big? Or the pads just not big enough, even if they came as a kit? I'm going to email anyway to get this resolved.
