This is absolutely the dirtiest, most foul interior I've ever cleaned. Lady called me, said her interior needed a good cleaning. Asked her to elaborate, she said her car needed some mechanical work and the mechanics wouldn't get in her 3 year old VW until it was cleaned. Honestly, I had a hard time imagining how dirty a car could be that a mechanic wouldn't sit in it could possibly be. I quoted her pretty high, told her that was a STARTING price and she agreed, saying she expected it would be expensive.

Before:

Started with Optimum Power Clean @ 2:1 dilution, using my Cyclo brush attachment on my Meguiars G110 v2. Added some water, scrubbed some more. Wet vacuumed, added a bit more water (which revealed the grey carpet) and extracted some more. Obviously 2 1/2 years of staining (build date was 10/11) this bad won't come out perfect but the improvement was pretty huge. Unfortunately, some stains were just too deep to fully remove. Removing the seats was not an option seeing as VW uses some odd 16 star hex head bolts to hold down the seats. With the buttons on the console, I had to use a toothpick to dislodge as much goop as possible, didn't want to get anything wet in a car that already wouldn't start.

Driver's side floor was the worst...

Passenger seat was a lot better

No idea what had been spilled in there but every time the owner came out to check on the progress, she had a beverage in one hand and food in the other. I just can't understand how someone can spill that much stuff in their car like that and just leave it. Whole interior smelled, of course. Not being able to pull the seats meant there was stuff I couldn't get to, so while the smell wasn't nearly as strong, it did linger.

Exterior wasn't bad, just did an ONR wash and dressed the tires/wheel wells.

Wow Scott, that's quite a turn around! I can't say it's the worst interior I've seen on here but I still cannot believe how dirty the carpet/seats were. I can only speculate as to the type of mechanical attention the vehicle saw considering how the owner cares for the interior. A 3 year old car not starting is pretty abnormal but then again, I've heard VWs can have electrical problems.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if part of the problem with the car is that so much stuff has been spilled in it that its affected the electrical systems.

I usually don't opine with such language... but seriously, WTF?!?!?

That's one of the biggest turnarounds I have ever seen posted on carpet.

What... she just put her half eaten chili-hotdog down on the passenger seat when the pizza delivery called her on her way home?

Unbelievable... both the staining and the feat accomplished in cleaning that interior.

Someone on another forum asked if they'd filmed a scat video inside that car. ;)

Some people need to be slapped upside the head. Worst part is she probably wasn't even embarrassed by the condition of the car and it'll end up looking like that again in a matter if months.

Very impressive work Scott. She's lucky you'd even tackle the job

Scott, wouldn't new carpeting have been the better way to go cost wise? Then sell her some weathertech full coverage mats or something. No matter how much time and product you through at that it will never be right. Great result for the task at hand though.

She said she couldn't afford new carpets right now, She just needed it clean enough the dealership would work on it.

Scott.. have you ever considered picking up a $100 McCulloch Steamer from harbor freight? Not that it would have made that train wreck any easier to clean, but man does it make interiors faster. I know it seems like you do mostly exteriors but man are they worth the relatively small amount of money when you need them.

Might look into it. Usually takes me about 20-30 minutes to detail the average interior once it is vacuumed. Have to check it out next time I'm down near the mall, Harbor Freight is pretty close.

Your only other choice  was to dye the carpets.  Technition Choice a division of ECP makes carpet dye in spray cans.

Probably too far gone to dye the carpets, so many really deep stains, not sure how you'd do it without ending up with darker areas.

Scott what kinda protection do you wear when doing a nasty job like that?

Rubber gloves. Pretty rare I come across something this disgusting so I haven't invested in a bio-hazard suit.

...mechanics wouldn't touch the repairs until *after* the interior was cleaned.....

*shudder*..

Great work Scott.

Great save guys! People like this shouldn't be allowed to own a car! Sad thing is it won't be long and it will be back to composting garbage again!

It just blows me away at how some people are such slobs and don't take care of their cars. I can't imagine what the inside of their home looked like.
