Just had the front fascia/bumper cover repainted on my Ford Lightning and had my paint guy spray an overcoat of Dominion Seal 2K Chip Guard over it.

I think it came out really great; the stuff is not the thick-as-snot, lumpy, yellow tinted stuff like you usually find. Looks just like a clear coat. I bought the stuff online for about $60 and it makes a quart of material. Painter applied 4 coats and I still have enough left to do the ground effects pieces this fall.

is there a wait period for the paint to cure before applying this? that's the one thing that really gets me. Unless you install some of these protections when the car is new, you have to wait at least a month, and by then road damage occurs anyway.

also since the forum shortened the link, it doesn't work. I'll search for it though. THANKS

Yeah, that's the dilemma. It needs cure time. My paint guy cured it in heat, then let it sit for a week, but 30-60 days is better. Painter said he got a bit of solvent popping, but I can't see it. Since I store my Lightning diring the winter, I should have got it in to him in the fall, then paint it and clear it, then let it cure for a proper interval. Gonna do that this fall with the ground effects items.

I think I fixed the link.

from what i read it almost sounds like a more durable clear? or does it go on after the clear? that would be great either way to be able to apply it and the paint still cures with it.

Goes on over the clear coat. Needs curing; then sand down the clear and apply the Chip Guard. Curing time is important. Mine was heat-cured, then left for a week. Actually, should be more like 30-60 days. If you store your vehicle for the winter, just take off the pieces and take to your painter.

It never really gets hard like a true clear coat; remains flexible (I suppose that's why it doesn't chip).

It has been on the market for awhile and I think it is MUCH better than the tape-type chip protectors. You can even mask off the leading edge of the hood (for example), spray the chip guard, then peel the tape off before it dries and the tape line will blend in with the rest of the hood, leaving an invisible protected edge.

i wish i stored in the winter. that is why my paint doesnt last and i'm looking for alternatives.

my other options are a winter beater, which i cant afford... or a used bumper to swap. then i could store the bumper all winter! hmmm
