does this stuff really work?

Hail the power of Quattro
A buddy of mine got some advice from one of his old school detailer friends. The detailer suggested that cooking oil removes tar and sap. The detailer also said that shaving cream in a foam version(not a gel) is a great stain remover for fabric. My buddy wanted me to ask you guys whether or not any of you had heard of this or know of it working. Im a little skeptical, but am waiting with anticipation for your input.

The cooking oil tip seems to follow the line of how WD-40 can clean tar and sap, but I'd keep the cooking oil in the kitchen where it can serve a better purpose, and just use some Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover (which remarkably, smells a lot like WD-40!)

As for the shaving cream trick, it's a pretty popular method you'll find online and in tip books. Basically the foam makes it easy to concentrate the soap onto one spot, and if you leave it on a fresh stain, the foam will pick up and absorb whatever its on top of.

Yeah, that sounds like a friend of mine who uses gasoline on a terry towel to remove tar. While I have seen it work I'll stick with my Tarminator and Autoglym followed up by clay.
