Does SSR2 contain silicone?

I heard that SSR 2.5 contains silicone and I'm wondering if SSR 2 does since I used it on paint that was about 6 weeks old. It was recommended by someone, but then I read that about 2.5, and I'm wondering if I may have screwed up. How about the other PoorBoy's products (PB1, 3, etc.)? Thanks.

Mike

I think the SSR2.5 is a little different than the 1, 2, and 3. Regardless, at six weeks out, I think you'll be fine...I'm not sure you wouldn't have been fine at 6 hours with SSR2, or even 2.5.

NO SILICONE, Body shop safe. :getdown

SSR2.5 certainly leaves something behind, try wiping a stripe of a just-polished area with IPA and then run your finger across from the wiped to the unwiped...from squeaky to slippery.

Can't speak for the other SSR's but this one bit me in the but on more than one occasion. Apply it, work it in and then wipe it down. You will find just what Mike found.

Hi,

I was just wondering if the SSR line is safe for fresh paint. I was just in an accident and from washing the salt of the freshly repainted panels, I've got some marring.

Thank you,

Yes, they are safe for fresh paint, but i would stick to nothing more abrasive than SSR1 or SSR2.

Steve

I emailed Poorboy's a few months back and this is the response I got

I have used PB's before and found it does leave something on the paint..what ever it is I do not know..it is slick like...

When I use 3M or Menzerna I get the squeaky clean feel..with the squeak..lol...

So there is some residual product left over what ever it is..

It definately leaves stuff by hand...just do the IPA test

It could just be the oils in the product for work time that you are seeing. The IPA wipedown will make sure the surface is perfectly clean.

Oils...that would seem to make this not a bodyshop safe product...if you mean solvents...that would mean something that would evaporate over time...which doesn't seem to happen, at least with SSR2.5.

Oils and organic solvents are both hydrocarbon based. The only difference is the viscosity and evaporation rate. I don't know too much about body shops, but they should wipe down the car with a prep-solv type solvent prior to paint.

I'm just saying that what SSR2.5 leaves behind doesn't seem to evaporate, say, like what OP leaves behind. It seems more like a wax like some other polishes like this say they have in them.
