Does P21s hide swirls better then sealants

Was wondering if P21s hides swirl marks better then a sealant such as FMJ. Was thinking of using AIO, 2 X SG then top with P21s. The car will only be driven in nice weather and garaged. So a caranuba should be adequate. What do you think?

thanks for your help.

In general, most carnaubas are better at hiding swirls. Sealants have the characteristic of "amplifying" swirls on a car's finish.

I can't speak from experience with P21S. I have used #16, #26, Mother's Step 3, and Blitz. The use of these waxes on my black car tended to hide very minor swirls, almost to the point where I felt an abrasive polish was not totally necessary.

I don't polish the XJS very aggressively any more, the paint is just getting too thin :( so it has marring I'd like to hide. The last time I detailed it, I used P21S over Autoglym SRP. The P21S *did* conceal a little marring, but it wasn't like some "high filler content" product. You won't mistake it for 3M SMR, for instance.

"Heavier" waxes, such as Meg's #16, Collinite pastes, and (I think, no personal experience) Blitz will hide the fine stuff a little better than "thin" waxes like P21S. Just my experience though...

If you are considering using a product that will hide swirls and can be topped with a carnuaba on a garage queen, you might consider NXT topped with P21S.

As you spend more and more time here at Autopia, you will discover that most of us try to eliminate rather than hide surface defects before adding a protectant and appearance enhancer.

I did purchase a PC7424 and the complete line of Menzerna products. I tried a section on my new red 350, since the dealer introduced many fine swirl marks. But it didn't seem to remove any. Tried IP with orange pad, then FPII with white pad, Finishing glaze(white pad), then FMJ by hand. Maybe I'm not keeping the PC on long enough. SHould I keeping working the product in till it hazes(Seems like a long time tried 3-4 passes still didn't haze so wiped excess of with MF) I guess maybe I'm using too much product then? Just scared to introduce more swirls or start removing more clear than necessary.:nixweiss

thanks for your input

P21S does have some filling properties; Blitz Wax is MUCH more effective in that regard. Concerning "sealants", 1Z Glanz also provides some filling, similar to P21S IMHO.

If you'd like a product that provides very gentle abrasive removal ALONG WITH very good filling characteristics, I'd recommend 1Z Metallic PolishWax. Even better, top it with Blitz after the next wash and you should see excellent results.

jch217,

Do not get frustrated with surface marring correction. As you use the PC more and more you will become more confortable with it and the different polishes, pads, pressure applied, speed, etc available to correct these problems areas.

If the gloss is increasing and the IP is not creating any haze you are headed in the right direction. Since you have a PC you may want to try Meg #80 in place or before the FPII. Meg#80 has excellent filling ability and some polishing actions. I have not used FMJ so I am not familiar with its bonding ability to Meg#80 but if you plan to use P21S or any carnuaba this combination should alleviate some or most of the appearances of surface flaws. :wavey

Maybe but I'm not a fan of Blitz's overall look. Better to eliminate the swirls and use P21S.

This sounds to me as though you are not working IP long enough, 3-4 passes does not seem sufficient. In my experience, especially to remove swirl marks you need to concentrate on a small area 2x2 for example, with a couple or 3 small coin sized dollops on the pad (medium firm textured pad) and you need to work the product until its transparent, just before it dusts ... this will take experience so you may have to practice this.

Then inspect the area, if the swirls are still there, hit it again. You may have to apply a little pressure (not much) and make your passes very slow, and overlapping - 1 inch per second, and do as many passes as it takes for the product to break down. Hope this helps.

I agree fundamentally with your last sentence, and I even agree that P21S/S100 is a more "well-rounded look". But the original question concerned "hiding swirls"; I think Blitz is MUCH better in that regard.
