Does Opti Coat minimize or prevent stone chips, etc?

Guys, when Opti Coat was introduced a while back, there was some discussion around its ability to help protect against or minimize stone chips across the front end of the car. Has there been any follow up on this or conclusive evidence that it does offer some protection? I'm giving some serious consideration to applying it to my hood, bumpers and front fenders which are chipping noticeably on my car.

thanks.

I've got two cars, roughly the same age, on is opticoated, the other is not, can't say I've noticed any sort of difference in that respect.

Well, the guys claim it's an additional "layer", so I was hoping it might make things a bit more durable on a fragile paint job.

I believe someone measured a 2 micron increase in thickness after applying Opti-Coat, that might be thick enough to ward off bird bomb damage but a rock hitting a car at 80 mph? That's asking a lot.
