Does CG have a version of Megs MF pads??

Junebug

JAFO
I see the CG website (the UK version) has new polishes and pads that are very much like the Megs system. But, over on the US version, we have polishes and no pads - ***? can't sell in the US?

Any Kal-e-Forn-yah detailers able to go by their store and find out? c'mon, inquiring minds want to know LOL!

Thanks

and have safe 4th!

I heard at one time they had or were making a pad based on a similar concept, but I don't know what ever happened to it.

Megs may have made the first, but I would think a little competition would benefit us all. Who really cares anyway? If CG has a as good or better product and a as good or better price then I'll try them. I mean, after all the hype and the years of research (really?) - it's a terry cloth like fabric glued to a piece of foam. The only part of the megs system i use is the cutting pad, I use UNO v3 polish and POXY for LSP. So, if anybody can get some CG pads here, I'd like to know. And please do a comparison if you can.

They had them the last time I was there, but I dont think they ever uploaded them to their site. CG also offers the Surbuf pads with their new Optical Polishes. Give them a call, and let us know.

From the CG UK site:

I'm I the only one that gets a little irratated when the other side of the pond gets new toys? It's bad enough they get some of the better versions of cars, but c'mon - CG, ya'll should be have a big deal on your US web site about these.

How many of you that tried the MF pads think that foam is still better? Well, if I had to chose just one, it wouldn't be foam. I hope to see more than one company making these, competition is good.

I'm right there with you JB.....

Yhe CG MF discs look eerily similar to the Megs discs

I "hear" that the CG MF pads are similar to a very early version of the Megs MF pads. Don't know if its true or not.

Jimmy, Do you really think if Megs could of went down to walmart, purchased a cotton terry like fabric and glued it to some foam, we would of had MF pads 6-7 years ago?

Well Bryon - here's the thing: we had wool for years, then foam, and foam evolved, then foamed wool. Somebody had to come up with the idea of MF pads. Sure wish I was that somebody. But, thinking about it, you know how strong MF is, and if you could have like superman strength - you could take a MF towel, some polish and wouldn't need a buffer. I can see somebody thinking outside the norm and saying, what if we put a fiber on foam, what would happen? Then they try it, test it, and holy cow, this works great. I personally think it's brillant! I'm not so sold on the hype from Megs that you need to use D300/301 yada yada. We've seen how good it is with M105 and UNO. Now follow along here please, Megs came out with it, but who's to say that CG copied or maybe they were looking at too and just didn't get it ready first. I don't know. I don't care. If they have a product simular, I want to try it and compare. Like I said, competition is good. Do you really want one company dictate price and availibility on a product like this?

Here's another thought: have any of you took some time to think about what is missing or could be better in detailing? It could be simple like a using a toothbrush on tight areas or maybe blending some chemicals to come up with a new QD or something. Or maybe ....

Think of all the products we have now that weren't around say 5 years ago.

I never realized this was a "had to"...

From this thread: DA Microfiber Discs Have a Storied Past...

Finally!

Soon, virtually everyone will be using Meguiar's DA Microfiber Discs, and enjoying their impressive results.

One thing is for sure... these little beauties were run through the ringer during development.

They were used on all sorts of vehicles, with all types of buffing liquids.

In terms of buffing pads, I didn't use much of anything else except prototype Microfiber Discs.

It was a tough gig keeping things hushed for sooo many years!

Doing write-ups was a challenge, too.

We couldn't show prototypes or even let on that something special was in the works.

This required "customization" of some posted pics.

Some examples:

From this write-up: "Alpine Electronics Imprint RLS Polishing Session"

In this shot, RDVT4ME and the other pc were shown working on the now famous Alpine Electronics Imprint RLS:

Actually, they weren't using foam pads at all!

Two more shots we I couldn't post:

This was another shot from the write-up:

The real shot:

the other pc polishing a difficult area using the Microfiber Disc:

Close-up of the new Meguiar's G110 Professional Dual Action Polisher:

And the real shot:

Can't really see it but I was using a Microfiber Disc on the DA:

Finally, Jason Rose shown using a "prototype compound with a prototype Microfiber Disc.

Also note the disc mounted to the machine sitting behind Paul as he wipes the car.

He kept bugging me to, "Try it!" About the 30th time I said, "I will!"

Care to guess the prototype liquid? Note: This was January, 2007.

Jimmy....no disrespect intended at all, but I think you are missing the point here. The D300/D301 are from the detailer line, which I think historically has been geared towards the production industry (volume shops, body shops, etc). These type facilities tend to not want to take the time to experiment with various pad/polish combos. I think meguiar's simply came up with a system that more times than not will meet the needs of what these type shops are doing. Additionally, I think they wanted the system to be easy to use for the non professional detailer that owns a DA polisher. The best way to do this is to package pads with polishes that won't get the average guy in trouble....ie, instilling marring or hazing that he can't get out.

Detailers like us are not the norm. We will spend hours dialing in a test spot to get the best possible finish. I never heard meguiar's say one HAD to use the pads with these products....I think they simply developed a system that will work the majority of the time, but the components of that system will work with other polishes and pads as well (yes, I have used D300 with foam).
