Does anybody ever make designs in the carpet with the extractor?

Sometimes I like to add this onto some of the SUVs I detail. Other than this I just make neat parallel lines with alternating up and down strokes. How do you think this looks (hopefully I will get better at doing it). I think it might add a nice personal touch, but lets hear some opinions.

If I got my car back and the detailer wrote his name in my carpet I would be pissed. Me personally Im not for it, but I have had customers rewuest stripes and stuff.

Uhhh... no. I'd skip that.

If you want to get creative, maybe make a template of the vehicle manufacturer's logo (a bowtie to go in a Tahoe, for example) and brush that into the carpet... otherwise leave it alone.

Yeah ok this is helpful. I was pretty skeptical about doing this glad to get it all cleared up. With respect to the lines I know sometimes the lines can add a nice touch. Often it can look better without them. I think the thing that looks the best is consistent lines that agree with the contours of the interior.

Thanks Guys

always start by yourself. by anything you do on someone's car, not just in this case.

ill start with my opinion on how would i feel:

MY car is MY personal space. MY propriety. MY soul/life/penis extension/whatever you want to call it. i will not allow anyone to write his name on it.

now question yourself about it. what would you feel like if someone writes HIS name on YOUR carpet in the car?

as an airbrush arti...hm.... (cant say artist cause im not...) so: as a guy that likes to use airbrush a lot (thats better), i would absolutely HATE if someone would put his signature on the drawing he did on MY car. even if it requires more money to do it without the signature, ill pay, just dont write your name on my car. thats why i never put my signature on my own drawings that take place on someones propriety (car/bike/etc)

personally, i think is a good choice you've made by asking this. my answer is: i agree with everything said by the posts above. dont do it.

Your name is one thing, your business name is another. I also vote no for just putting your personal name, but if you had a business name (Mirror Detailing, Dynamic Auto Care, whatever), then I'd say go for it.

I guess that's where the conflict is I did not intend for it to be illustrated as my name but my company's name (mike's auto detailing). The company name does kinda make it strange now that I think of it. "*** this dude just wrote his name in my carpet?"

I used to stripe the mats, but only a couple customers like it. However, the back of SUVs can be fun and people seem to like it there.

I think I am going to use a permanent black marker and write the following in the rear area of SUVs:

Detailed Designs Auto Spa....BACK OFF OTHER DETAILERS.

(that's sarcasm btw)

:D

Lol I think I am gonna get some stickers made up and just slap a few of those on the paint windows or where ever else I feel.

Id say find a print shop that can make you some paper/plastic floor mats with your insignia on it. One thing i have been doing is getting the plastic mats that say "we take pride in your vehicle." Its just an added bonus for the customers as they get to keep the floor cleaner for a few more days.

I wouldnt do stickers as people dont often want to advertise your service (they often get offended) but they will be happy with sharing a few business cards. Leave one or two in the cup holder or visor.

No sorry I was kidding about the stickers lol. I always leave business cards but the floor covers are not a bad idea either.

Thanks

That's not as far fetched as it might seem.... I have been known to place a decal in the drivers' door jamb on certain vehicles stating "Appearance Care By:" and my name/contact information. It's a good reminder for the customer to bring the vehicle back regularly, and ensures they don't lose my number.

That could work out well but also terribly I know some clients that would find it handy but some that would also hate that. So I guess you need to pick your battles. The best way for me to maintain contact is a call or email every few months.

i like this idea. Its like the oil change stickers. Only question, what is the recommended distance between details? :P

You'd have to add in the Auto Detailing portion in order for someone to not confuse the two. That becomes kind of long though.

The bigger question is, for those that don't really like it, will it stop them from coming back ? And, more importantly, will it stop them from bad mouthing you to others ? How often do you get groceries and get irritated at how the cashier organizes them in your bags (bread at the bottom and then something heavy on top) ? Does it stop you from going back to that grocery store the following week ? Does it make you bad mouth that grocery store to everyone you know ? Everyone has their own specific preferences and how they do things, so it's almost impossible not to "offend" someone in SOME way when you have their vehicle in your possession.
