Dodge Transmissions

Well I just got back from picking up my truck from the dealership for transmission repair. It has been to three different delaers so far far for transmission problems, the first time it wouldnt shift into 2nd gear at WOT they replaced the torque convertor, the second time it slipped a little they replaced a solenoid, now it is slipping completeley and totally when it is under wide open throttle in 3rd and 4th gears, I took it into the dealer Saturday and just got the truck back today they said they tore the transmission down and fixed the problem, on the way home I gave it a little gas to see if it was better, and it still slips!!!! Looks like its going back to the dealership tomorrow luckily there are two in town so I will take it to the other one this time. Sorry I just wanted to rant about Dodge transmissions.

My dad's Plymouth Minivan has a terrible transmission, which he is just waiting to stop working anytime.

My mom's Concorde has 70K on it, and the transmission frequently shifts hard on downshifts.

:hairpull

Unfortunately I have heard this story before.... I had a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. Just over 75000 miles and lost the transmission, I was able to coast to the side of the road before it totally locked up. Almost $3000 later, it was back on the road....but continued to have problems. The diagnosis was "catastrophic transmission failure" Up until that point the truck was problem free, well maintained, never towed or plowed.....I should have known... the lot at the mechanic's had bunch of them on it..... :wall

Good luck, I hope you get it straightened out!!!

A few weeks later I bought a GMC!

The 46RE tranny blows with anything related to the dealer in it. Time to go aftermarket; APS, powerdemon both make great trannys for them. You can order one complete and have it shipped to you, or just order the parts and have a local tranny shop do it. DO NOT take it to a dealer. You could also try just ordering a transgo shift kit for it and putting that in. Either way a good tranny shop should be able to fix.

Very interesting. I own a 99 Cuad Cab 2WD, and tow a travel trailer on occasions.....Other then the 318 with the 3.31 gears in it, just not having the balls to deliver, its been a great truck. OK, now I'll spill my beans. My tranny, when I nail the throttle, slips from 2nd, back to first for a brief second, then shifts back to 2nd. Annoying? Yes. If I gave it a good tune up, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, she would run and pur like a kitten. I'd still have tranny issues, but I treat it accordingly, and am in no hurry to get from Pt. A, to Pt. B....It has sufficient power at $2.95 gl.

Im definetely interested in these Am trannys......

If its jumping to the wrong gear its one of three things. Most likely its ur valvebody, its what plauges dodge trannys, there are 4 "revised" valve bodies from chrysler that i know of. However only one actually works... Transgo is really ur best bet here. The other two are the TV cable, one end at the throttle body and the other in the valve body. You can adjust the TB end of it, its the white clip on ur linkage, and there are plenty of right ups on how to adjust it online.
