Dodge Neon Paint Questions

How can you tell when a paint job is too far gone to attack with a PC? My g/f has a 2000 Neon, dark orange metallic, and it has experienced years of neglect before I came along. It stays outside 24/7 and wasn't waxed for a few years, and when they washed the car, they never dried it off. Over the past year, I have put a few coats of various waxes on it, but it doesn't last long and the finish is really dull looking with swirls and scratches in it. I dont want to hit up her car with a PC and an abrasive polsih to remove her clearcoat and cause damage.

Alsol, anybody know how hard the Neon paint is? I PC'ed my C5 this past weekend, and like others on here said, the paint is pretty dang hard. I had a hard time getting some of the scratches out of my paint, but I got it looking much better.

I plan on doing my 98 neon soon which has never seen a garage or any wax/sealant ever. I'll be using a PC with Sonus SFX-1 with a Sonus orange pad followed by Zaino Z-PC with a Sonus green pad. Being that I've never used the PC or any abrasive polish I was just going to spot use the SFX-1, but with the years of neglect I'm now thinking that I'll go over the entire car with SFX-1 before the Z-PC. Guess I'll spot test the Z-PC first to see if it can do the job. Anyways, I'll post a before and after pic or two of what these polishes and pads do to my Neon's finish if I can find an app to resize pics to odd dimensions this site demands. It might help you guage how well a neglected Neon's paint cleans up.

I've got decals down the side of the car. Between that and the plastic/rubber strip that runs down the sides of the Neon the polishing should be interesting. I've got some nice scratches on my bumper... would you try polishing that too?
