Do you wear ear/eye protection while polishing?

Just wondering if anyone else wears ear and/or eye protection while polishing. I've worn ear plugs since about halfway through my first day of polishing. I'm considering wearing eye protection because of the inevitibale dusting/splattering, albeit small it still happens on occasion. Anyone else wear protection? I don't know a thing about the chemical composition of these products, but I'm pretty sure it's not junk I want in my eye balls.
 
Yep! I wear Ryobi Noise Suppressing headphones with the MP3 jack and clear specs. I didn't yesterday and got some degreaser in my eye....ouch!
 
Sometimes, but breathing the dust particles from polishing is pretty bad for you as well. Has given me nose bleeds. I got the half face respirator 3M recommends wearing while polishing.
 
I can't stand having that junk all up on my face while working in 90° heat. I'm sure I'll curse myself later, but for me-no, I don't wear anything.
 
I wear my Etymotic ear buds with an iPod Shuffle clipped inside my shirt collar and some Grateful Dead or Rush turned up pretty loud.



Probably not the smartest thing to do but it sure is fun to buff to the music!



I hate wearing eye protection because I always end up sweating and it fogs up the glasses.

They aren't really that loud IMO, but the sound is very unpleasant IMO.



To me they sound like a machine that is about to self destruct.

No ear protection I lost my hearing in the army. Yes I do like to wear eye protection though. Got to your hardware store and check out something like this with LED'S on the side! your polishing will love you as well!!
 
I require my employees to wear eye protection and ear plugs are available but don't get used by most of my guys. I wear eye protection, but I gotta hear my phone ring so no ear plugs.
 
Dust masks are a good idea if your working with quartz silica polishes and compounds-it's a carcinogen and once it gets into the lungs your body doesn't break it down.

When I'm detailing for long periods of time I would definitely go ahead and wear ear plugs. In my opinion the random orbit polishers like the flex and pc xp are the most annoying, especially at a speed of 6. When my positioning forces my face to be near the machine that's when having ear plugs really helps. And frankly maybe it's just me but I can still hear everything around me, it's just slightly muted. Maybe it's my jumbo-ears...



I've always wanted to purchase the noise reducing headsets but I don't know if these are more effective at reducing noise than the traditional ear plugs that you stick into your ears. Anyone have an answer to this?



I love detailing but I know for a fact that we use very harmful chemicals for our bodies so I'm going to try to protect myself as much as possible. I know I've started a thread here a long time ago about how I would feel sick the next day from detailing, and I can't help but blame allergic reactions from the stuff that's in Menzerna polishes. That's why I use a hardcore cave-worker's dust mask. I'm trying to stay on this earth as long as possible and I rather not go early because I was lazy about protecting myself when I was younger. Happy detailing friends!
 
Guys protect your ears and eyes, ears especially because hearing loss sucks. I use the cheap orange earplugs from walmart or target... both stores also carry yellow ones but they're horrible. Safety glasses are some generic ones I've had forever.
 
I wear a 3m face respirator and sometimes eye protection. If I don't wear the mask, I'm snotty for two days afterwards.

+1. Those of us with employees need to pay even more attention to this. We're responsible for keeping our employees safe, so we need to ensure that safety equipment is there and being used.

Question: YOu know those safety glasses with the LED lights? are those actually helpful to spot check your work? i was thinking about ordering a pair from amazon cause they're like 15 bux but... i mean if it's not really helpful in checkig for swirls etc...then i'll save my money
