Do you use an IPA between compounds/polishes ?

When you use a compound or polish do you use an IPA wipe down after the compound/polish ? Say example you use a M105 then a M205 do you wipe down with IPA after the M105 and or M205 ? thank you very much for any help/comments. I am thinking yes to remove the compound/polish just used to create a fresh surface for the new compound/polish or LSP. Just want to make sure I am not waisting my time.

IPA can be good for inspecting between polishing steps but I’m not sure it removes all polishing oils. To make sure they are gone I use a product designed especially for oil removal. I hope I’m removing all of them by using it

I dont wipe down the panels with a product designed for that Final Inspection, until I am finished with all the correction, polishing, work..

Same here. I found IPA (various dilutions) utterly ineffective for removing Meguiar`s Trade Secret Oils (TSO). I`ve found that stripping those is worth doing, ditto for the stuff Menzerna (under any label) leaves behind, as the filling from some of their "106" family can really do some concealing.

When buffing off the M105 residue, I use a little Meguiar`s M34 Final Inspection as I find it provides a little (very little..) buffering to minimize micromarring from the nondiminishing abrasives, which just keep right on cutting whether worked by the polisher`s pad or my buffing MF. But that doesn`t strip the TSO.

FWIW, other than the Meguiar`s compounds/polishes (and Menzerna stuff, though I no longer use it), I might/not bother stripping the paint before LSPing. IME it`s not always necessary with every product. No, not stripping...even those oils that I now always do strip...has not diminished the durability of my LSPs the way I would`ve expected given the conventional wisdom on the topic. I`ve had oils dissipate, revealing terrible issues, while the overlying LSP stayed 100% fine, but I`ve *never* had a LSP die prematurely because of underlying stuff left by the correction...another of those who`d`ve thunk it? things.

Accumulator, do you still use TOL Prep Wash/ Klean to strip polishing oils? This is the only product of that nature that I have

Yeah, and that`s the only one I have also. I`m not wedded to that particular product, but I probably have a lifetime supply.

:) that goes for my parents’ vehicles as well. I just give them an extreme wash via foam gun and I haven’t had to polish them either.

It’s an “oldie but goodie” product that’s not talked about much any more. I have to be careful with it though because it stained my painted driveway. Luckily, after a while, the staining did go away.

Hey guys where can I learn about this "Prep Wash Klean" ? I did a search and kept getting some Oral treatment. lol. thnx for any help.

Bill D , THANKS for the help/info. Looks like I`m gonna get some. Do you guys use it straight or diluted ? appreciate the help.

I’ve used it straight but I see no problems diluting it a bit. Make sure it doesn’t drip if you have a painted driveway

So it was you who took all the Prep Wash Klean.........
Heh heh...nah, I`ve only bought the stuff twice, and the first bottle was back in the `80s! It`s had a few name changes since then...Prep Wash is easier to remember than the AkyraClean or whatever the previous one was.

I rinse it off when I`m finished working that section, usually with a spritz of Distilled Water. It`s supposedly not necessary, but I do it anyhow.

BUT: I want to be clear that I`m *not* saying it`s better than the other (and newer) products on the market that do the same thing. I`ve never used those and something might be better/cheaper..I just don`t know. But I do recommend using such stuff instead of IPA.

I’d like to see a comparison between Prep Wash and the newer stuff. Since it comes in gallons I have a feeling it might be cheaper
