Do you prefer sealants on some colors and carnubas on others?

I actually prefer sealants on everything. I cant tell you when the last time I used a Nuba was..........

Ease of use, durability, depth, crispness, its all there in the right product.....(Spend a little prep time though!)

lol! Now you tell me. I just purchased some RMG + CMW from Excel this week.

As a general rule, I prefer carnaubas on solid colors (including white and yellow) and sealants on metallics. I find that Poorboy's EX w/carnauba and Optimum Car Wax are a good compromise for all paints.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. (lol) It all comes down to personal preference, IMO. It's kinda like the Blonde vs Brunette question. ( I'm a Brunette lover, btw.) As for me, durability isn't the issue when it comes to the Sealant/Carnauba question. It's the look. It's no secret.......I'm a Carnauba Junkie!! I love the look of a quality carnauba on both light & dark paints. For instance, Souveran, Trade Secret, #26, CMW, P21S, Max Wax, Sig II, XXX or Natty's Blue looks just as amazing on white & silver as it does on black & red. I use Sealants/Carnaubas to augment the color I'm working with. When I want richness & depth for my black truck, I tend to go the Nuba route. There are some sealants out there that, IMO, are catching up to the looks of Nuba in terms of depth-wetness-warmth & richness. Here's the crazy thing..........As an admitted "Carnauba Junkie", my arsenal contains about 18-20 types of Carnaubas & about 25 types of Sealants. Go figure!! If I want to enhance the flake in the paint, I reach for sealants. For instance, Z2 Pro provides for an amazing flake "pop" on any color. However, within the past year or so, I've become partial to Acrylic based Sealants as my choice when I'm in a "sealant mood". ( Acrylic Jett, Klasse & M-Seal to name a few.) Yet, there are times when I opt for UPP,WG,EX w/Carnauba,EX-P,Zaino etc...... Most of the time when I'm using sealants I go the combo route & top it with a nuba. gives me the best of both worlds, I guess. Sealants or Carnaubas???? Which is better on what????? It's blondes or Brunettes, my friends!! It's all good!!

Same here.

IMO, sealants have come a long way (in looks) and unless put side-by-side, it's hard to discern the difference.

I agree that it's all personal preference, but I'm in the camp that no longer uses carnaubas. Can't remember the last time I did. For my needs (in terms of both looks and protection), sealants have become my staple as far as LSP.

Sean, if even discernable that way!

I would bet that a side by side would be hard to differentiate to about 95% of the people who are even reading this..............When all the BS is laid aside, who can really tell??

And the chances of an honest assessment might even go out the door as they would have a 50/50 chance of getting it right anyway...............(I detect some flamage)

I think there is a difference between the looks of wax and sealants and the function of each. On my daily drivers I find a decent sealant and don’t worry about it since durability is the main issue. But on my show cars I use Carnauba only and usually in combination with a glaze since durability is not an issue. Show cars or Sunday drivers are normally held to a higher standard then most daily drivers How many of you walk by street rod or muscle car and shake your head at minor swirls that you probably not have notice on a daily driver? A glaze like RMG and XMT along with a good Carnauba will hide most of the minor swirling and extend the time between abrasive polishing.

As far a color goes

I have a silver blue that everything looks equal on and nothing really makes it pop. I have tried UUP, Zaino, PS, NB, WG, NXT, XMT and this list goes on.

I have a Milano Maroon which is a dark Maroon with out any metallic and it looks best in AIO/PS or RMG/PS. It currently has Z5 X3 and Z2Pro X3 and looks good by I think could look better.

I have red Ford with no metallic that has some orange in it. I first used RMG/PS and though it looked as good. I wanted to try RMG/NB and found that RMG the combo toned down the orange and gave it more of red hue which I liked.

My black Ford is a really deep black without metallic. I have tried everything I could get hands on and it just looks best with RMG/PS. The RMG seems to deepen the black and PS makes it glow.

My red non metallic Mini Cooper now is Z2Pro but after this second shipment ZFX dries up I going to make the switch to Rejex or some other sealant where durability is an issue. I have tried RMG/NB and if wasn’t outside 24/7 I would probably go with this combo but just don’t have the extra time required to maintain it.

My silver Aviator with lots of metallic looks best with sealants, Carnauba just doesn’t do justice to all the metallic and currently has been by durability test bed of products (Rejex, Z2Pro, and Glare)

I still prefer nuba for now, I mean #16 just never disappoints me 2 months easy and looks great on white. I've used it on red and maroon (under VM) and was very happy with it

Agreed...carnauba is still my choice. The process is more pleasurable as well. Maybe it's nostalgia from when I was a kid helping my uncle wax his '76 CVCC Civic, I dunno.

However, as previously stated, sealants have come a long way and Zaino, FMJ, AJ, etc. have found their way into my collection. Once my can of P21S runs out, I may switch over to Zaino for metallics.

Wax on solids, especially darker solids like black. Sealants on everything else.

I'd put money on my being able to tell a carnauba on my own car from a sealant 100% of the time. :)
