Do you keep a detailing log ?

I've been using 10 waxes, 6 sealants and 7 QDs on the four cars in my family.

I'm starting to realize that I can't remember what I used where or when.

Was that 16 or 26?

476S or 845 or Natty?

And I don't even want to think about when I experiment with different waxes, one half this the other half that.

I have to start keeping track, I have to start writing this stuff down.

I started keeping a log of how long it took me to detail various cars. That way I could more accurately estimate the time it would take to do a vehicle. Unfortunately, I'd get so caught up in detailing, that I rarely kept track of the time between each step. :(

But I do still keep a log of when I polish/wax a car, and what products I used. It's just the time breakdown that I have trouble writing down.

No, but I am about to start.

I have a small dry erase board in my garage for oil change info, so I will use that or a small notebook. I can remember my car details but not others that I see irregularly.

I found it was difficult to remember when and what product I used on what vehicle too. I started a log a while back and it has been very helpful. I use index cards because I had some. Each vehicle has it's own card and every time I apply product I write it down with the date. It's easy to look at the cards and know when a vehicle needs work and how long products last. Oh, I detail 10 cars regularly, 5 of my own and 5 for family members. I have to have written maintenance logs too.

On my own vehicles I do. Created a spreadsheet for repairs, maintenance, and detail. It includes the date, mileage and a description where I can enter what products I used.

10 WAXES? do you mean to tell me you have 10 differant waxes in your shop? WOW I don't have that much space......LOL I use one wax one polish and one compound. Try using Optimum brand. I use to carry Pro brand but I found with Optimum I could do any job with the RIGHT PAD. The key to a great buff job is in the pad. but hey that just me...

Ok, 10 waxes was just a guess. I did a count and its really 15.

I don't detail for a living, just a hobby for family and friends. I'll most likely try

Optimun Polish but right now I have a few years supply of Poorboys.

10 different waxes is pretty common for members here. I only have 8 that I can think of, because I gave away my Gold Class and Turtle Wax. Otherwise I'd have 10.

Same here, works very well for all you have listed above.
