Do You Allow Your Customers this ?

do you allow your customers to bring their pre sealant and sealant and have you discount the price of the job since they supplied the stuff?

I"m thinking that if this guy's bringing his crap over (which i already have) to get a discount, that mindset already puts me on the defensive.

Do we take our McDonald's fries to Burger king and ask them to discount the price of a BK combo cuz you have your fries already ?

I mean with that mindset, do I really don't want to do his car ?

I've turned him down fearing he may be the kind of customer that wants everything for nothing, or overly nit picks at things.

regardless I wanted to know your pros' thoughts ?

thx

No, I won't give a discount to use their stuff. That is such a minimal cost per vehicle anyway. If he wants to use his own stuff he should od it himself in my opinion. I don't like wheeling and dealing when it comes to doing the detail work.

You did the right thing , I would have done the same . This guy probably saves his soapy water for next time.

I agree. I'd have done the same thing.

I work on a customer and he did not want me to use my stuff. I agree to use his chemicals and when he bring it out it was Nufinish. He did not get a discount.

I've used what a customer prefers on their car a few times but I didn't give them a discount. Seriously, it might take $1 worth of product for whatever amount of polish and wax you would use anyway.

No, I do not allow my customers to provide any detailing supplies, including sealants. And I would not discount the price either.

At my oil changing job, we get customers every once in a while that bring in their own oil and/or filter, we typically just give a couple of bucks off (even if the oil is worth more).

So, I say, give very little money off, like $5-10 (max) and if he still wants it done, then its probably because he just wants his stuff used that he likes, but wants a pro to do it. Basically installation charges. I know when it comes to my car, I like to buy my own parts and take them to a shop to get installed by pros. Even though I know how to do it, I would just rather take it to them, but still want my stuff put on and not the stuff that they can get cheap and make profit on, because in my eyes its probably crap.

no discount. Your doing the work. I can understnad someone bringing you products that they like but if they are just bringing them to save money, thats just tacky.

Not to mention that I am familiar with how the products I use need to be used and how thay react. I dont want a learning curve thrown into the mix by another product I dont use. That to me would make me want to charge more...LOL
