do we owe the customer a sealant?

as a detailer, do i owe the customer a sealent or is a wax topper ok? All my work is basiclly through recommendations and i am just wondering if every car i do deserves to get a sealent or is a coat of P21 ok? I know every paint is different and certain things look best on certain paints but obviously sealents last longer and i'm wondering if even though the P21 might look better than say SG on a certain car, should i do the SG anyway to make sure it "lasts" longer (the shine and protection)? i hope you guys get what i am pondering. oh well.. thanks in advance.

I ask. It is a typicall thing for me to ask the customer if they want more in the way of looks or protection. Sometimes you just go the middle road (wolfgang, ex-p etc... Each looks AMAZING on different colors, and offer decent protection) and sometimes you just have to decide what you think they want

most detailers here leave that open to the customer, explaining the differences and price accordingly

wax $

sealant $$

sealant topped with wax $$$

Same here. On garage queens though, I go with what looks the best.

That is EXACTLY what I do.

Hmm.... I think this sounds like a pro type issue?

Moved to Professional Detailers if you don't mind. :)

Rule of thumb I go with is just like Scottwax...

-Sealant on Daily Drivers

-Throw up between sealant and carnauba for garaged Daily Drivers

-Carnauba or best look for fulltime garagers

Do your customers ever feel cheated if the shine doesn't have longevity to it. I've talked with many clients of some of my competition here in the area and one of their big complaints is that the car looks great for a few days but then the swirls, ect start to come back. Now I know that the swirls are coming back becuase he's using products with fillers rather than proper paint prep which I can eliminate but I'm concerned that customers will say the same thing to me if I'm using carnuba for the best look but it doesn't last very long.

thanks guys. these are all answers i had floating around in my head and your responces really help. thanks.

I want my clients to look at their car three months from now, and think of me...

We use very little actual wax. But then again, my Miata gets a coat of Souveran every 2 weeks...

Your assessment of your competition is right on. Your lazy competition more like it. They give us all a bad name.

If you want a long lasting carnauba that looks great, holds its appearance and beads well for a long time, try Meguiars #16 Pro Paste Wax. I think both you and your customers will be very pleased.
