Is it necessary to dry my car before I begin claying just after I washed it? It seems like a pain to dry it off if im going to wash the car again right after I clay.

No, no need to dry

I clay as I wash my car:

I wash a section,

while still wet I clay (holding a spraybottle with soapy solution to relube when needed)

after claying I go over it with the wash-mitt

on to next section.

when done then rince & dry.

this adds an extra half hour to the washing process

but that's me

Same here, i wash the car. Rewet the panel im about to clay, clay using extra lube if needed, then rewash and dry.

Hmmmm ... Before claying, I always do a wash, then a thorough, Autopian drying before I clay. My reasoning has been that I don't want to risk any water spots. Am I wasting my effort by drying? :nixweiss Be aware, though, that a typical clay job takes me about 3 hours. I'm slow. But I'm assuming if the car air-dried, the clay wouldnt remove the water spots. Is that correct?

Whether you dry the car off or not, be sure to either rinse it off or dust it with your MF just before claying. If you work outdoors a lot of dust can settle on your car in the time it takes to do the job.

Personally I dry the car or try to get it "mostly dry" at least.

i keep the car somewhat wet and then clay it. After I'm done I do a quick wash to get all the residue from the clay off the paint and then dry it.
