Dirty 02' Corvette Rims

Hello All,

Well spring is here and it's time to get back to some fun with detailing! We've been having some nice weekends here in Southeastern PA and I got a chance to clean down the vette real good. I noticed my rims have collected some cruddy break dust on the insides of the barrels. It almost looks like little pimples of stubborn grease. I don't have any special kind of wheel cleaner and was hoping someone might have some suggestions. I don't have the option of removing the wheel and cleaning which would be ideal. Is there a good spray type wheel cleaner that's clear coat safe that might do the trick? It's also very difficult to do and hand cleaning in the area because of the rotors. Anyone suggestions?

I just take the wheels off and polish them with SSR1 or SSR2.5 if they really need it. Then I apply 3 coats of wheel wax and they are good to go for another 5,000 miles when cleaned regularly.

Poorboys Spray and Rinse , just follow the directions properly and it will amaze you at what can be released from barrels and calipers. (Wet Wheels, Cool Wheels, No Uncoated Aluminum, Spray Liberally, allow to sit 2-3 minutes)

Why is taking the wheels off not an option? You can't take it to a tire shop and have them let you clean the wheels while they're off the car?

My suggestion would be EO A2Z, take it to a quarter wash with a pressure washer, and do it that way. To reach and scrub inside the wheels, I usually just use an old toothbrush.

I have an 02 Z06. I did purchase a small racing jack from Sears for $100. so I could remove the wheels to do a good cleaning now and then, but for my routine washes I can get the barrels very well with this little goody. I've had mine for about a year with no problems although some have reported problems with the handle coming off. Again, I have had no problems with mine for a year.........Tom

IMHO i would take them off, then use a good wheel cleaner on them, rinse welll then clay. Ive clayed rims b4 and it work really well. After i would dress them or sealthem or w.e you do. But I find clay works well on rims
