Digital Camera Reviews

I second the recommendation for the dpreview web site. :xyxthumbs Besides camera reviews, they have forums, somewhat like this one, for each camera maker. You can learn alot of tips and tricks about photography and cameras/accessories.

This is where is did my research before I bought my Canon G2. Good luck!

Cheers,

big fan of any of the Canons. They take compact flash cards, which you can get at Crucial at around $90 for 256 megabytes. On the lowest resolution, that's 2300 pictures :)

I'm in the market for a digital camera as well. Consumer reports just reviewed them. In the 2 megapixel category, they liked the kodak DX3600 and the Olympus c-2040. In the 3-5 megapixel category, the favorites were the Sony DSC-707, Canon Powershot G2 (? soon to be G3) and the Olympus Camedia C-3040.

I also read a computer magazine and they liked the same Canon as well as the Olympus models noted above. My impression from what I've read is that the Canon is probably the best, however, you probably won't go wrong with one of the Olympus's.

I scanned E-bay for those models. The Canon's are pretty pricey, however, there are a lot of great deals on the Olympus's (nearly 1/2 price).

I'm on the same page as AMP99 -- the dpreview.com site is great for learning about cameras, deciding on needs versus wants, etc.

I didn't need the Powershot G2, I just had to have it... one year later, no regrets!

Make sure you get at least 1-128MB card, if not 2. I got my 256MB Kingston card for $100 last XMas.

Have fun searching! :xyxthumbs

smart cards have the openface type scratchable surface. That's why I went with the cannon over the Olympus. That and the cards are more expensive on the higher end models. I didn't go with the Fujii (although compared to the S110 I got, it had slightly better color quality) because it felt cheap.

One day I'll get a CF PDA running WinCE and get a 1GHZ card for it :)

Is there any good digital camera out there that will match

or come close to my M6 Leica?

I like the convience putting the pics right on to my computer.

When I get a good shot I have them enlarged to 11X14 on

cibachrome. Somtimes larger.

In digicams it's all about mega pixels, the higher the better.

The highest I recall is 6.3 ish. Have we gone higher than that?

But that'll cost a bundle, over $3000 easily.

The current highest is by Fuji with 13.8 MP. Right behind that is the Canon EOS1Ds with 11.1 MP.

Both of those cameras will run you the other side of $5000 easily.
