I posted a thread in the "machine" forum and probably should of posted some of it here. Ive been reading through the threads and really have no clue what people are talking about with the different products. You all need some kind of key or something no newbs can understand what all the different things are. Can anyone enlighten me with the different types or waxes and stuff and show me where I could possibly buy them? Thanks!

Also, Ill be going to college this fall and wont be able to wash my jeep as much as I would like. Whats the best thing to do in a situation like this? Go to the local car wash and wash it by hand and use their pressure washer to rinse it off? Then dry it by hand? Many places like that have signs saying not to dry it in the bay, theres no way Im going to dry it in the sun.

I'll make this short and simple :) as I'm running short on time.

Since you are heading off to college, if you're only concerned with protecting your vehicle I would look into either Zaino or Jeff's Werkstatt These two sealants have nice durability, easy to use, and can be easily re-applied.

As for the washing, I would look into getting some nice microfiber towels and use Optimum No Rinse Wash. This allows you to wash your car right in the parking lot and you dont need to rinse, just apply and wipe dry with a microfiber. Even in the winter this is a great alternative to introducing swirls at your local car wash.

To understand the detailing terms we use around here this might be http://autopia.org/forum/faq.php?faq=secret_decoder_ring

It is currently being updated...

Also, the Autopia Guide To Detailing is a good start to understanding everything; however it doesn't seem to be working right now because of the recent reset of the website. Hopefully that gets back up soon so you can take a look at that. If there are anymore questions don't hesitate to ask, there are plenty of friendly people around here willing to help. Welcome to Autopia :hifive:

When you say Zaino or Jeff's Werkstatt, which product is the best. Their are a bunch of different things to choose from with just the waxes. What would I need if my paint is in good condition? I wanting to use a buffer with this also. I currently use the Meguiars 3 step process and would like to replace the 3rd step with a better wax that last longer. Is that a good idea?

My personal opinion, I prefer Zaino. But if you're not going to do any deep polishing I wouldnt waste your money on the Zaino when Jeff Werkstatt just gives a slightly different look but still good protection like Zaino. From the sounds of things I would probably reccomend you choose Jeff's Werkstatt:

Here is what I would get...

Prime - - Apply to the paint to clean the paint and to create a nice base for the next steps

Acrylic Trigger - - Apply after you use Prime

Acrylic Jett Trigger - - Apply after washing to freshen up your protection

Quick Wash - - If you like to lightly clean your car if it gets light dust accumulation or bird bombs. If you dont worry about light dusting, then I wouldn't worry about this.

I use Zaino and am also a college student. There was no place to wash my car at last year that I could find. I'm looking into buying some QEW to use to wash my car weekly. I've had nothing but luck with Zaino. I've used it on 2 different cars so far and I applied it by hand. Get some good MF from fiber-works or pakshak....you'll need em
