Difference in QD's

I received this response from Terry Freiberg, owner of Classic Motoring Accessories, in response to my question about the pricey nature of BLACKFIRE's QD -- $ 16.95 for 16 oz.

"...There are two types of quick detail sprays. One category like Meguiar'sFinal Detail and Eagle Wet Wipe N Shine is a 24 hour shine without any lasting protective qualities. Car dealers use these sprays to wipe down showroom cars in the morning to remove fingerprints and give the cars a just-waxed shine. These are less expensive products.

The other category actually adds a micro-fine layer of protectant either polymer, acrylic or carnauba to extend the life of the existing coating. We have limo services that will wax the limo once a year but mist the limos once a week (or more) with a protective, quick detail spray. These sprays also give the vehicle a just-waxed shine but even after a year, the limo still beads water! Sprays that add a layer of protectant are more expensive. All manufacturers try to give the customer a value for their money and quick detail sprays are no different. You usually get what you pay for..."

By the way, I bought another bottle of BLACKFIRE QD. :D

While there isn't any empirical evidence on the contrary, for my money, I would rather just add a layer of product X whenever I want to and then use a cheaper QD spray to make it look good. I've used Crystal Mist, Platinum UGE, and others that "put down a coating" and IMO I have yet to see or notice a discenable difference.
