Difference between Meg's #34 and Quik Mist?

So what exactly is the difference between Megs #34 Final Inspection and their Quik Mist & detail?

I just finished a 4 day detailing job (AIO, 3xSG, s100). Of course it had to be raining the first day I needed to drive the car. Now I wanna quick detail the car when i get home to get the rain/grime off.

Should I be using the #34 or Quik Mist for something like this (I have both)?

#34 always seemed a little thicker/substantial to me than Quik Detailer. Also, I'm not positive, but I believe Quik Detailer is still not body-shop-safe (which matters not a whit for touching your car up after a rain, but it does matter to painters, hence making #34 body-shop-safe).

After getting rained on, though, I wouldn't use either unless the car was washed right before the rain, and didn't get driven during the rain. Otherwise, I'd be concerned about marring the finish, and I'd just do a regular car wash. :)

I was wondering about marring...but I assumed that's what the QD is for: inbetween washes.

Whats the point of QD if you need to wash your car first?

Well, it isn't for getting grime off the car, it's for maintaining that clean, just washed/just waxed look. Like if you drove your car in the dry, it would get ever so slightly dirty, right? I mean, after a week of driving in nice weather, your car won't look just washed probably. But, if you QD'd your car every day or two for that week, it would still look freshly washed. However, if your car gets real dirty, it needs a wash.

If you could just QD your car no matter how dirty it got, what would be the point of car wash? ;)

I don't understand how QDng doesn't cause marring and swirls. There is always at least a small later of dust after a day or two on my car (especially the rear bumper). Wouldn't QDing just make me rub this dirt into the paint?

One school of thought goes like this,

Anytime you physically touch your car's finish, at some level, there exists the potential to micro-scratch the finish.

At least more so than not touching the car at all.

Therefore, do everyting in your power to reduce the potential.

You can also think about where do you draw the line? Surface dust and wetted on road grime are pretty different. Would you try to QD of a big hunk of mud, or would you figure you need to just break out the hose at that point?

Everyone draws their own line. I draw it at surface dust and possibly water spots from a rain on a clean stationary car. More than that and I break out the hose. You don't have to draw it there, though. Sorry if I sounded that way.

In my opinion, QD is to maintain that just-washed look, not to create it. Washing is to create it. :wavey

I fully agree with Aurora. If YOU think that QD'ing will marr the finish, then bust out the hose and buckets and wash it. Not meant to be rude but as Aurora said, draw the line. Your own line. If you think the dust is marring the finish then just wash it.

Just my $.02
