Did I use too little opticoat?

So, I had my first experience with opti-coat today. Everything went great and turned out great.

Only one problem: I read others daying they use approx 10 CCs to do one car... I used less than 5 CCs to do an 06 duramax diesel crew cab short bed...

I know I covered everything completely as I had good lighting and I made sure to apply it in a cross hatch type pattern (once up and down once across) and everything was covered in opticoat.

Did I put it on too thin?

Bob, you probably did.  I found myself doing the exact same when I first started using it.  You'll find the longevity and performance of the product somewhat diminished as a result.  You have to make an extra effort to apply more...

About 9 months ago I applied Opti-coat pro to my wife's BMW 535i GT trying to use as little as possible. The GT is actually bigger then a 7 series. I did the car with 2-3cc. Here is a video showing what the effect of that is. Rear door and the lowers on both doors are easy to tell. Whenever I get time to do the car again, I'll do 15cc with all glass except windscreen. Wheels will take at least 5cc. So I'll have 20cc on the car and no worries.

Next time you wash the truck you will see if any areas are thin. All areas could be covered, but not thick enough if you have to remove any water spots, ect.

I did a new F-150 crew cab (4 door) with short bed and used almost 20cc with glass. This includes doing all the chrome and trim.

Yes, you most likely applied it too thin. On a vehicle that size you would need around 12-15ml. In order to cover and spread only 5-6ml over that much area, you would also have had to wiped and spread the product too much which probably removed the small amount you did apply.

Who is this guy Chris?

Is he some joker coming here and showing fake information?

Is he a charlatan?

Is he an amateur?

Who is Chris?

He is probably one of the most knowledgeable about opti coat,

plus he is one of the forums newest sponsors!

For info about opti coat, he is your man.

He has an odd method of application using blue rolled shop towels.

I can't comment on this directly, but he said it gave him good success.

Did my buddies F-150 and used 25 CCs on it, but did the paint, glass, lights, wheels and step bars. I try not to skimp with OC, but have seen instances where I couldn't believe how little I used.

I put a blue shop papertowel over my foam pad and use it to apply the Opti.  This is supposed to allow an even application while preventing the Opti from waste by soaking up the foam pad.  Seems to work okay!
