A friend of mine picked up an 00 Taurus for a daily driver about a month ago. We decided to get together this past weekend to work on the paint. Adam had washed, clayed, and waxed it when he got it, so we skipped the clay. The Zymol wasn't holding up too well at this point either. The paint was pretty well swirled, as well as oxdized a bit, with lots of scratches and some pretty bad etching from water spots. The hood was the worst, as we tried different things, we probably spent almost an hour on the hood alone. The rest of the car wasn't as bad, but still needed TLC. Adam helped for a while (me teaching him), but then time was running out on us so I took over the polishing to speed things along to catch some sun.
Process is as follows:
Wash
Polishing with 1z UP with a cutting pad (yellow LC)
Polished with 1zPP with a light cutting pad (orange LC)
#16
Results: A ton better, swirls are gone, a lot of the etching is gone (some scratches and etches were so bad they wouldn't come out even with my heavy dutiest stuff), it now has depth and gloss, and looks wet. We were pleased with the results.
Before washing, you can see the water spots and swirls:
After washing, you can see the swirls well since the dirt was hiding them somewhat in the other pic:
After polishing:
Now this is scary :scared: Fuel door area before:
