Diamond Cut

Here's a "project" that I did last weekend. My friend's AE92 just had a cheapo repaint job and the painter didn't paint it correctly (orange peel, pinholing and some runs), he also didn't sand it well (stopped at 1200 or so), and introduced A LOT of buffer swirls (from a wool pad running at around 1500RPM up)... Well, he paid $180 for a full car repaint when a typical rate locally runs about $550... So go figure...

My friend asked me if I can fix the paint a bit. He sanded (note, not WET sand) most of the car with 1500 sandpaper, needless to say, it was all scratched up.

I had to re-wetsand the panels with 1500 then 2000... This is how it looked after sanding (we didn't have a sanding block as well), Best I could do with a soap dish cover as a block hehe.

After 2 passes of Diamond Cut + Wool on a rotary running at 1000RPM.

After: (2 passes of wool + 2 passes of W7000 cutting pad)

We didn't have any polish to follow up the Diamond Cut (such as DACP or FI-III), but my friend is pretty happy with it...

Might do some DACP + IHG next weekend... We'll see...

WOW:xyxthumbs

Impressive change:bow

as for the sandingblock:

take a peace of wood , the size that fits your hand easily , take a peace of soft rubber and glue that to the wood.Soften the edges(make them round) and you have a perfect sandingblock

I'll take pictures of the ones I made and they work just fine

I use Diamond cut with a cuting pad on an orbitial and find it has a little more cutting power than DACP, does have the polishes/fillers that dacp has and uses diminishing abrasives so you create no hasing.

Very good on clear coats

Also great with a rotary, just have to keep an eye it though. Out rates fraecla, malco and others i have used.

my 2 cents

Diamond Cut is some damn good stuff when you need something with some 'ooomf'.

Nice job on that car...be sure to post some pics after you use DACP, IHG and some wax. :xyxthumbs

I love looking at before and after pictures:up

A friend of mine did the same thing with color similar to that. Car went from pink to deep red and used diamond cut also.
